    Albergue Sleeping Kit?

Then again, I'm going by my old Boy Scout training

    Albergue Sleeping Kit?

I think it's a good idea to bring a sleeping bag with you, especially for when you're in the higher elevations (Roncesvalles, O Cerebrio). It's also a good idea if you're going early in the season when nights can be quite chilly. A 40 degree (Fahrenheit) should be adequate. Some of the...

Can I Buy A Cowboy Hat?

I was thinking of getting a Tilley hat for my Camino (sjpp-sdc dates tbd), but was curious as to sizing issues. If anyone knows a reliable gat shoppe on the web, pleasr let ne know. My other concern with the Tilley is if they're packable (for getting to the start point). Buen Camino...

Can You Give Me An Estimate? :/

I plan on flying from BOS into CDG via DBL, have 72 hour layover in Paris (jetlag and see the city), then train to SJPP via Bayonne or Bordeaux. I'm thinking of planning on 40 days walking, then fly back to Boston via DBL (assuming I can get a cheap connector from SDC). Buen Camino 8-)...

LIVE from the Camino The other Religion in Spain

Poor guy  ...makes me sad that he walked all that way to find the Cathedral closed up. I appreciate the fanaticism that people have for sports like football (soccer), but to CLOSE one of the holiest sites in Christendom because of a GAME?! I know Spanish national pride was in the line, but...

Organised groups making "reservations" at municipal albergue

That's awful! The albergues are the descendants of the pilgrim shelters of medieval times, when peregrinos were almost exclusively on foot. If you've got a support vehicle and are part of an organized group, my "suggestion" would be to climb in and drive to a hotel that's a little off the route...

General Questions regarding a possible trip

Try the Camino Guides series by John Brierly to get you started. They're a good start, plus this forum. I would also suggest thinking of yourself not as a tourist, but as a pilgrim. Whereas a tourist arrives and expects, a pilgrim arrivrs and accepts. Having lived abroad, my approach to...

    Sunglasses?

There is no way on Gods green Earth I'm walking 800km+ in a WNW heading without my sunglasses. I have one set now (prescription), but will need new ones by then. I might take along 2 sets of regular and 2 sets of shades...they're relatively light these days. My thought as to how to keep them...

Opinions on my loadout? Pretty sure I'm taking too much..

Another idea is to use waterproof dry bags (REI has a good collection) to sort your clothes and other kit into groups. It would also serve to keep your kit dry in case of foul weather.

how far did I really walk?

I had considered wearing a pedometer in my Camino, having measured how many steps I make in a mile. It stands to reason that a pilgrim wearing a pedometer would write down the number of steps taken in their logbook (journal) and add it up over the course of the journey. In order to make it...

    Good pensions and hostals etc

The website is under construction. Please don't link to a website that isn't fully operational, it's misleading. De Colores and Buen Camino, 8) WanderingChristian

    Pilgrims Passport - Baptism Required?

Being baptized is not necesary for making the Camino de Santiago. Many walkers are non-Christians or atheists/agnostics and we love them as our brothers and sisters. As to attending Mass along the Camino, I say go for it. My one bit of advice would be to refrain from receiving Eucharist (bread...
