I had the same question about the shells before our first camino. It didn't dqwn on me that you can buy them everywhere, so I mad embroidered felt shells. We have carried them on all our walks since then.
We enjoyed a lovely meal tonight in honor of @henrythedog at Casa Pancho in Burgos. We we are biding a bit of time here while we wait to see whether the pain in my husband’s knee will subside enough to continue walking. In addition to Henry’s recommendations, I can speak very favorably of the...
STP-- I am not a doctor and hesitate to give medical advice. But I can pontificate with the best, so here goes. My own experience (with severe tendonitis, a total ankle replacement, and knees that my doc says should be replaced soon) is that rest helps more than you think and faster than you...
The first time we walked we entered Santiago on Ascension Day. We had no idea this was a big deal and the camino was incredibly crowded from Sarria to Santiago. It sort of felt like a party the whole way!
I love your delicious posts! You include so much rich detail. I feel like I am just a step away from the Camino.
You are so wise about going downhill slowly! I rolled my ankle in 2001 walking down a slope on a gravel path. Two reconstructive surgeries and weight loss got me though several...
I had to smile at your comments about hurrying in the morning. Just like you we found that taking a bit of time was worth it. I remember walking out of Zubiri as part of the rushing gang in the pitch dark. After a couple km, I told my husband I needed to sit and wait for my feet to wake up and...
I’m glad for you that you found the monastery and had these lovely days. It looks beautiful. Ultreia! Im looking forward to what awaits you with you refreshed approach.
My camera went to Samos but we did not! I left the camera in Tracastela by accident. We had intended to go to Samos but got very bad info and were told the walk was lots of pavement. So we stayed on the main Camino. Friends who rescued the camera thought we went to Samos and walked that way...
On food, we always picked up a yogurt and fruit for breakfast the afternoon before and then carried a lump of cheese, a bag of peanuts and dried fruit in case we didn’t find lunch. We also loved Bifrutas, a milky fruity kids drink. You can get it in individual containers. If we could find them...
You post made me so emotional this morning, with joy for you and with impatience foe me as our departure day cannot arrive quickly enough. I know exactly exactly where you were.. so I have this wonderful image of you, the Roman bridge and the horses. Ultreia!
Glad to hear you are warm and dry! We have special memories of Triacastela where we had a birthday celebration for one of our pilgrim friends. It was a wonderful meal only eaten on the Camino — chicken and hotdogs with spicy tomato sauce and pasta. Salad ( lettuce with corn). And Tarta de...
I love your posts — they are really helping me get in a hospitalero and Camino state of mind. I’ll think about your comment as we serve in Miraz. Safe travels! Ultreia!
Oh Yay! Hope your walking is smooth sailing from here on! I think you were wise to take the ride — no sense getting injured before you have hardly begun to walk. Ultreia!
...certainly not the result of the wine, cured meats, and sundry other lovely gourmet tidbits..... oh, and the bread, lovely Spanish bread.... and whole milk in cafe con leche... and... and...
I am loving your posts with all the details. What an adventure in the snow -- one you will not forget and one that, in 20/20 hindsight, will make you feel like you can "weather" anything! We too are Altus fans, so I am picturing you in your Altus sailing along on. I hope this weather clears...
