I walked this route in 8 days in 2010. It wasn't hard, and I didn't have much time, but I when I walk, I walk long. I took loads of photos, walked with many people who were doing this in 10 days, which generally is the norm for this route
I walked the Portuguese route and to be honest, even though I tried a mixture of badly spoken Portuguese/Italian/Spanish, loads of people spoke English, and they were not shy in showing.
Crossing over at Tui, it was a different story, the Spanish speak Spanish !!!
I was lucky with the weather. I rode the VDLP from Seville starting on the 3rd of April and saw a small bit of rain in Salamanca, arrived in SdC in sunshine, it was lovely !!!
Yes there was walking beside the road out of Porto, then we hit countryside and there was one section of a road but the cars gave us a wide berth, this was before Sao Something de Rates.
Day 2, you are taken off road and then you walk a little on the road before you head up a hill to a...
My experience of Portugal was different
There was some roads to walk on, on the first day which were a little dangerous but the cars gave us plenty of room
Not all towns have albergues but there are cheap hotels
I never had a menu del dia in Portugal, and only had one when I crossed over to...
I walked from the Se in 2010 and it rained the first day pretty much all the way to Rates, and I never felt unsafe. There were a few spots where I had to walk on the road, but the cars gave us plenty of room. We also got loads of friendly tooting of horns and waves as most people understood that...
This line above is incorrect.
What we found is that when we walked from Pont de Lima to Tui, there were pilgrims who had walked just from Valenca and they were not given beds until after 19:00. The beds will always be given to Pilgrims who have come some distance before they give it to a...

We walked this at the start of April, and only got blankets in Rates. We had fleece blankets which were warm. Everyone else had lightweight sleeping bags and they wore clothes as they were cold. Ponte de Lima was freezing whilst Redondela was boiling !!!
Enjoy your camino
Ponte de Lima was the only albergue I stayed in in Portugal which had staff. It did not open until 17:30 and it was also very new. It only cost 3 euros but there were no blankets or pillows. The kitchen was clean and the price included free internet and wireless if you had your own computer.

In Portela, we did see the building that is meant to be the albergue. It is next to a church up a long hill, but noy at the top. Looking at it, it did not appear to be open

How many days are you going to take? Having just finished this walk, the majority of people take ten, I took eight whilst another lady took nine. You can take longer as there are plenty of rooms. How many K's do you think you can walk?
There are loads more questions that could be asked...
