Advice needed on travel from Tomar to Porto

I strongly recommend walking - relaxing, improves fitness and physical and mental health...

    Language for camino portuguese?

Not suprising, given the Spanish royalty assumed control of Portugal in 1580 and it took 60 years before the Portuguese regained thier independence... (https://www.historytoday.com/archive/shotgun-marriage-spains-annexation-portugal)

    Language for camino portuguese?

My experience has been that saying "Eu não falo português. May we speak English?" works wonders. And Google Translate is a good Plan B...

    Porto portage

I would agree... We in Australia have a similar 'hub and spoke' model of parcel transport and delivery, albeit it within the one country - central sorting and distribution hubs in each state, and parcels can get sidelined at any stage for a few days (sometimes even weeks in pandemic times)...

Hotel/Guest house in Lisbon that will store luggage? Or send to Santiago?

I didn't have a suitcase - just put post-camino clothes in my backpack for travel to Lisbon, and decanted them into the box in Lisbon. I have no idea if the Portuguese Post Office would take a suitcase (suitably sealed and addressed), but I cannot see why not...

Hotel/Guest house in Lisbon that will store luggage? Or send to Santiago?

I posted a box of post-camino luggage (clothes) from Lisbon Post Office to Ivar in Santiago in 2019 and it was there waiting for me... I purchased the box from the Post Office and the staff taped it up for me - that way we both knew it would be intact when it arrived in Santiago. I received...

    A few days from Lisbon

An interesting proposition... My wife and I walked CP 2019, starting from Lisbon Cathedral, and we found the first three or four days relatively tedious.... walking through some quite run-down, even abandoned, streetscapes, tomato fields and gravel roads.... I was conscious that CF had...

CP from Lisbon - Sep 2020

Most likely waiting for the seeds to dry our sufficiently for harvesting, then waiting for the harvest contractor to arrive - I suspect that, given the size, cost and complexity of harvesting equipenmt these days, sunflower farmers are unlikely to own their own harvestors and rely on travelling...

I should have lived the moment

I bought some seeds (Diggers Seeds for us Assies) and grew my own this last summer - three plants grew to bearing stage. I still have the plants in pots in a (comparatively) frost free spot, and hope to carry them through to Spring when I wil plant them out into a full sun situation and...

    Wildfire Season?

Interesting, but please read the fine print... "The data shown on this page represents information on “fire alerts” or “hotspots” detected by thermal sensors on different NASA satellites resulting in two fire products, labeled MODIS and VIIRS throughout this report. It is important to...

    Wildfire Season?

If I were a Portuguese forester and wanted to grow hardwood timber, then the Blue Gum would be my choice. As noted by another contributor, eucalypt forests in much of Europe are free of many of the pests and diseases that constrain the growth of eucalypt trees in Australia, and the growth...

    Starting in Lisbon

A couple of reasons come readily to mind... The first few days of walking from Lisbon can be fairly tough - walking along roads, rail lines, etc., across plains.... Not a lot of variety and not a lot of shade. Accommodation seemed to be confined to towns along the way but the marked path missed...

    Lisbon

I walked Lisboa to Santiago via the Coastal Route/Senda Litoral. As you have noted, the way-marking was not a fool-proof as for the Camino Frances and possibly the Central Route of CP. Yes - the views of the ocean were superb but i did miss the olde world environment of CF and I gather the...

    Lisbon

Quite different.... Put expectations on hold and go with the flow (probably much as you did with CF when you started out... Yes, CF spoiled me and there were times when I wondered why I was walking CP, but there were good (but different) times on CP!

    Sending to Ivar from Portugal.

From memory - the cost Lisbon to SdC was under 20 Euros, including purchase of the cardboard box and sealing. I took my package of clothes to the Post Office and found a suitable sized box, packed and addressed it there and handed it over to the PO official who sealed it and helped me fill in...

Starting from Lisbon — good or bad idea?

I too returned to Portugal - bus Santiago to Porto for four days, train Porto to Faro for five days, then the train back to Lisbon for three days. Would've liked to travel to other cities but ran out of time. Have to say that I found the Portuguese a more modern and vibrant society than the...

Starting from Lisbon — good or bad idea?

My two bobs;' worth, having just come off the CP Lisbon to Santiago, via the Coastal/Senda Littoral route... If I were to do it again, I would probably start in Tomar - the first couple of days out of Lisbon, while interesting in their own right, didn't inspire me enough to wan to do it again...

    Etiquette for shared paths

I am 100 kg + so no-one on foot or two wheels will be forcing me off my path... and I will be carrying hiking sticks

    Etiquette for shared paths

My humble view is that possession is near enough to 100% of the law... Cyclists are welcome to go around me, but should not expect me to get off my line to accommodate them. If I have the only dry part of the path, that is their problem, not mine. And, in case you are wondering, many many...
