Have an overnighter somewhere on the way (Singapore, Dubai, Hong Kong....) most time it will only cost you the price of the hotel. Worth every cent. We have been to Europe from Australia to walk Caminos for the past three years and have always had an overnighter each way. It's just toooo far.
Yes, we found out about this the hard way (we had to pay for it) when we were in Portugal in 2014. Its not just pilgrims that get caught either, they try it on everybody. As said above, if you have not ordered it, send it back straight away.
One thing to remember. A 90 day visa to Europe means 90 days in any 180 days period. So if you have not been out of Europe for an extended time your 90 days may start from the time you first entered Europe. Be very careful about this as you may find yourself on the wrong side of the immigration...
I see there is a thread for an October Pilgrim but we are interested in walking the central route from Porto in November. We will walk from Porto to Villa do Conde along the coast then head inland from there. We like the company of other pilgrims, walking in the cooler months but don't like...
Pleased to see I am not the only one who has a Camino closet where items are put aside for the next Camino. Be interesting to know how many other Camino addicts have a Camino closet?
No accommodation at Convento do Cristo. Lots of beds, dorm or hotel down in the town. Tomar is a wonderful place to visit. Make sure you have a look at the old Jewish Synagogue in the old part of town.
Hi Ross. We had the same problem after walking the CF in 2014. So to fix the problem we walked the Le Puy in 2015 and this April we are walking from Porto to SDC and then on to Finisterre. Problem solved.
I think the Portuguese Camino has been discovered. Lots of pilgrims are talking about walking it this year. I belong to a Camino Facebook group in Australia and it is getting a lot of attention. My wife and I are walking it from Porto starting late April.
Thanks for that, sounds a lot better than taking the bus. We like the Brierley guide as we like our own room and w/c and he tells us where we can find them. We are walking the PC in 2016.
I want one, not just for our next Camino in Portugal but for here on Tamborine Mountain. The dogs and their owners make walking here not very pleasant.
As time is not an important factor affecting our Camino I am starting to think that we may walk as far as Parque das Nacoes on the first day, stay overnight, then next day walk to Alverca and catch a train from there in the afternoon to Vilafranca de Xira and spend the night there. Looks like...
We like to have the privacy of our own room (and WC if possible) when we have walked our two Camino's and would like to continue to do this while walking the PC. Having trouble finding anything suitable in Alverca Do Ribatejo or Verdelha de Baixo. Does anybody have any suggestions?
