you can divide the stages across the appenines in more managable distances (provided that accommodation options are all functioning). this is from my accommodation list.
To avoid the long climb from Fornovo to Cassio, it's possible to divide the stages like this:
Fidenza – Cella (18km),
Cella...
that is not exactly true anymore. by all accounts I've heard and from what I've observed during walking last june-august the route is well waymarked throughout italy.
check the accommodation list in the resources (updated in august 2019) and you will see that there is just about enough budget...
have you seen the accommodatin list in the resources? it lists pilgrim-specific and pilgrim-friendly budget accommodation, last updated in august 2019.
from my memory of walking the VF last year and with very slight vertigo problems, I don't remember any sections giving me trouble. however, there were some beautiful paths over steep slopes or with drops on one side.
don't be alarmed at the long list below! these are only potentially problematic...
I walked via colle this year but partly along the old (now unmarked) VF which took some lovely paths. however, best to stick to the markings if you have not done a thorough research in advance.
colle was a pretty old town and I was sad I was too early to visit. the monastery ostello is at the...
that is wonderful. a little luxury before the start of the walk won't go amiss. :)
that would be wonderful. you can post on the forum and I'll transfer the info to the list. the planned update is somewhere in march, but perhaps I will get it out in april instead.
thank you, it always makes me warm inside when someone finds my lists useful. ;)
for the date you are leaving siena, I think ostello casa delle balie is still closed and that's why you cannot go through with the booking. I tried to book for two people and it gave me the message 'non...
durability still does not trump the unfoldability. I like it when I can unfold my credencial (at home, for a random example) and admire all my stamps (and show them off to my mom). and I have two of these booklets because I like collecting my stamps very much, and I can't unfold them. 😭...
going on foot to rome and returning back home after service is not so uncommon amongst swiss guards. I've met another just two months later, also going home.
in lucca you can get stamps in san michele in foro, in san frediano and in casa boia. credencials and guides are sold in casa boia. casa boia is close to where VF leaves lucca.
it's been said that the worst month is august. I was crossing the po plain in july this year and there were some mosquitoes but they usually didn't bother me when I was walking, only when stopping. peeing was a very windmilling affair. don't go into the corn fields, it's their territory. I had a...
that loop is weird. here's the link to the post with the attached files. the updated lists are both in the first post (the last file) and at the end. if this doesn't work either, pm me.

diana, welcome! I walked the italian portion of the VF solo in the heat waves of this years july and august and it was awesome (I like warm weather). there was not much traffic till I got to tuscany, and none of pilgrims I met before that were italian. that changed from lucca onwards, but I...
perhaps gambassi terme through san gimignano to colle di val'elsa? I assume there are busses to gambassi terme and colle di val d'elsa also should have good bus connections.
