    Camino English

Mornin'. I'll be starting the English route about September 12 and continuing from Santiago to Muxia, Finisterre and then back (going against the flow!) to Santiago

A lot of the planning gets tossed out the window the minute you start walking. People you meet, weather, fitness level all come into play. Besides, going with the flow is something we usually don't get to do, at least not to the extent we do on the Camino. Embrace it and enjoy it.

First Camino Starts May 1, 2015

I'll be easy to spot. I'll be the guy wearing the hiking boots and backpack.;)

First Camino Starts May 1, 2015

Me too. Arrive in Paris the morning of the 29th, train to Bayonne for the night, SJPD on the 30th, then start up the "hill" on May 1.

    Am I being naive?

DMSyracuse, of course you can do it! Actually, you have no choice. You've been called. I'm always taken with how people first hear about the Camino, think about it for awhile, then put it on their list of "things to do in my lifetime", not sure when that time will come. Your second calling was...

I get to CDG on the 29th, then train to Bayonne. Train to SJPD on the 30th, first happy steps on the path May 1st. Interesting how the Camino can be soooooo far out there, then one day, BAM, we're stressing because it's nearly here.

Um, cause I'm a creature of habit? :) Actually it's because I'm going with a sister and brother (first timers) and I think this would be the most enjoyable route for them.

F.Y.A., what you say you'll be looking for is exactly what I found on my first Camino and why I feel the need to go back. I remember feeling like I was tossing things overboard (self doubt/anxiety about the future/- all the things in our minds that tend to hold us back) as I walked and talked. I...

Obviously the physical aspect of walking the Camino needs to be taken into account, but to have a really good experience you'll also need to be willing to open yourself up to whatever comes your way. ( if you wanted to stay in your comfort zone you would have stayed home, right?) Try to...

Hi I am starting my Camino in Roncesvalles on 6th May 2015, It's my first. Any tips?

Bernice, my advice is to just be as open as possible to everything you're going to experience on the Camino. Let "Yes" be a word you use often and willingly. And expect to see the best sides of the people you meet. You won't be disappointed.

Strange how a movie can do that to you, huh? To make you feel that you NEED to do it. For me it was seeing an article about the Camino in the local paper, followed by "The Way" coming to the local theater a few months later. (Watch for the documentary "Walking the Camino-Six Ways to Santiago"...

Primus, it's an easy bus ride back to Santiago. There's a bus drop off/pick up area in the center of town. Can't miss it. (If you avoid transport the rest of the Camino, it will feel odd to be in a vehicle again.)

I'm happy to be able to add my name on here again. I, along with a sister and brother (first timers), will be leaving SJPD around May 1st, 2015. Cant believe it's only nine short months away!

Just home from my Camino 2014

The simpleness. That was exactly what it was for me and its what I still miss. (And why I plan to go back) To bring that way of thinking into our daily (real) lives can be quite the challenge though, since it tends to go against what society says we should do. Best of luck to you with that.

    Young & Determined

Hey Travelbug97, welcome to the forum. I'm always in awe of someone young undertaking such a challenge as the Camino. I would have to guess that simply by the fact that you are choosing to do this, you have to have a fair amount of maturity and self confidence. However, parents will still worry...

Just home from my Camino 2014

It's nice to hear that you were only rained on twice. I leave next May and have been concerned about rain being an issue.(previous Camino was Sept/Oct 2012. No rain until Santiago.) Any troubles with finding a bed? And lastly, congratulations on your Camino. Hold on to the "high" you're most...

Hiking El Camino de Santiago in September

Like the others have said, you'll have no trouble finding walking partners. As for the safety aspect of it, what I discovered last sept. when I walked was that was that bonds are made early on and pilgrims tend to watch out for one another, especially if you happen to be young and female. That...
