The locals have always called the Bayonne to SJPDP train the "Valley Rattler". The old train sure used to be one, and the name has "stuck". It's service was, and is still somewhat erratic.
I love this way of getting to SJPdP! Ah! The beautiful French Countryside!
A night or more in Paris staying at Adveniat! (My fav after many nights in Paris)

Wow that's a hard one. Because your request is so extensive.

Considered getting bus from Biarritz Airport to Bayonne railway station? Then get the valley rattler from there up the Nive river valley to SJPdP? The price is right, as is the Journey.

Good Travelling and Buen Camino
Gerard
That train trip is a highlight of the trip for me.
You will perhaps see pilgrims with scallop bedecked packs on the train from Paris, certainly on the train between Bayonne and St Jean.
Don't be shy in striking up a conversation. Plan a few questions to beak the ice.
Buen Camino!
Gerard.
Blimey cobber. A fall detector. Now you tell me!
Could've done with that a couple of months ago when I fell off the goat track on side of the mountain.
I was climbing up the col du St Bernard to the hospice at the top of the pass when off I went, roly poly.
After a decent bit of a breather, I...
I think for you poles should be considered essential items of equipment. Combining these with bag transport, buses and good route selection will be your best bet.
Best of luck cobber,
Gerard.
Biarritz is such a neat seaside town, so why not stay there the night, have a beach side wander the next morning before continuing by local bus, €1, to the Bayonne Railway Station.
From there catch the Rattler up the Rive River valley to SJPdP.
Regards and good travelling,
Gerard
March is Springtime, often wet and muddy in Spain.

Fascinating and breathtaking views are, by definition, generally observed from higher elevations, thereby giving a higher chance of bad weather.

G'day there cobber and welcome.
It appears that you will be a source of good advice for our winter walkers.
Obviously, your number one tip is that us blokes should grow a decent beard.
I'd better start now if I'm going to do a winter camino next year.
But I've heard some gals don't like kissing...
I was just wandering along that coast and bused fm Bilbao to San Sebastian, then caught the metro (note METRO) to Hendaye/Irun.
The metro and train stations are adjacent in Hend/Irun so I then trained to Biarritz Station, from where the valley rattler leaves for SJ.
There is probably an easier...
I'm also a member of the tin hip club (2).
Just take your own sweet time and you'll be more than fine.
But don't spread the word too far or they'll say we are Bionically over endowed and make us walk twice as far to qualify for our Compostela!
God forbid!

Hi Maraja!
I'd suggest you check the downloadable files in the "RESOURCES" section of the Forum. The link is in the blue section at the top of this page.
