You shouldn't have any problems in April. There might be some albergues still closed but most will be open (especially by mid-April). Spring is a very nice time to walk the Francés in my opinion.

Doing the Pyrenees is nice (my favorite section, in fact), but there are many, many great sections from Pamplona onwards too -- in the grande scheme of things you aren't missing anything.
