Planning for next year.
1) Spring. The days get longer instead of shorter. 2) I've heard somewhere that the norte has the most road walking. I don't really notice. Nah, not so bad. It is kinda nice I think whenever I've been there. But, ANYTIME anyone is walking out of or into a big city it is not ideal. Well, Logrono is pretty nice. (but that's an entirely different camino altogether).- Damien Reynolds

Ok, one more thing. You can bypass the "inner city" walking in Bilbao by just following the river after you cross it. Then you cross it again to the other side on the "curvy" bridge. I think its the Euskalduna Bridge... and I'm sorry for the bold font but I can't seem to change it.- Damien Reynolds

I know the question was not meant for me but I like the "river route" out of Bilbao. Over the last few years the bike path has been improved. It's fine. Norte from Santander
I've never actually stayed in Santander. I take the ferry and then just walk straight through it. I tend to walk until Boo. I think that's what it's called (de Pielagos). The walk is not so pretty, but whatever. Nice albergue there. The lady can be grouchy, But always a good time had for all.- Damien Reynolds

It's always an incognito thing. I've met friends, that camp along the way... I haven't. But the cool thing about the norte is there are showers at the beach... sometimes. For whatever you need Decathlon is like Spain's (&France's?) version of REI I think. But it is WAAAY less expensive. It's like a candy store for me. Walking 3 days of Camino del Norte from Bilbao

Walking 3 days of Camino del Norte from Bilbao
The walk out of Portugalete is only along a busy highway for like 3 km (or so). Then it's along a bike path all the way to La Arena. I would hate to miss the Vizcaya elevated bridge, but I wouldn't waste a walking day (sorta industrial along the river) getting there with such a limited...- Damien Reynolds

The Norte gets very quiet after Avilés

On that day I usually end up staying at el haya, it's a little past Pobena. Specifically at the truck stop/ biker/ travel motel.
