I agree with every word you said. Probably my favorite Camino route so far! Worth every moment!

    Ferry to bypass Irun

I though Irun was fine, too. We happened to be there on a weekend when it seemed all the residents were enjoying a leisurely walk along the streets of the center of town.

Footwear options for Camino del Norte

We were on the Norte, doing some sections, in parts of May, June, September, and October a few years ago. I wore boots on the Frances when we did our first Camino hike in 2001 and had many painful blisters. Been wearing trail runners on the Camino and PCT ever since. I like Altras and I add a...

Looking for Advice on Timing to Walk Camino del Norte/Primitivo

We have also done it May-June, but July and August are hotter. I would choose September.

Best part of Del Norte Scenery and walk.?

Ribadeo is on the Norte, but Oviedo is on the Primitivo--did you do a different route or detour there?

    Guidebook for Camino del norte

The book that I wrote about the Norte and Primitivo, "Healing Miles: GIfts from the Caminos Norte and Primitivo<" is not a trail guide per se, and does not replace a trail guide, but it DOES give our day by day travels (towns and mileage, etc.) and discusses various places to see that one might...

    Planning Norte Route

I thought all of the Norte was wonderful, but I am throwing out a couple of options. Many people start on the Norte and then move onto the Primitivo. This combination is shorter than doing all of the Norte. Another option is to just go ahead and plan to do the entire thing, but in sections. The...

    Camino del Norte

We have done the Norte, LePuy, Frances and others. The Frances was the easier, I would say the LePuy and Norte are about the same degree of difficulty (and are my two personal favorites). I always thought the hardest part of the LePuy was not the route itself, but the steep/rocky descents into...

Accomodation at Pasajes de San Juan

WE stayed in both Irun and Pasajes into San Sebastián and very glad we did. If you happen to be in Irun on a Sunday, it is very pleasant to just walk around town because that is what everyone else is doing to. I loved our stop in Pasajes--wonderful hospitality and a charming town. Taking the...

    Questions from first timer

AllanHG. Yes, it is tougher, but it is still one step at a time and not unsurmountable. I'll assume you use hiking poles (2) and use them as needed.

    Reusing my Credential

No problem--and even if you started further on it wouldn't matter about a gap as long as the last 100 KM was properly stamped. Congratulations on getting back on this incredibly beautiful route!

Camino Del Norte in mid May

Great time to go> Buen Camino!

Questions about planning (mother, 2 youngsters)

My husband and I walked the Norte in sections, so it took longer than it would for a thru-hike. Still, the Norte is a bit more than 500 miles and more difficult than the Frances, so I wouldn't be able to do it in four weeks (but then I couldn't do the Frances in three). Are you used to these...

Walking poles for Camino del Norte

We like our Black Diamond Distance Carbon Z--they are very light and fold up (three sections) We had to replace them in Spain when the airlines lost our original pair. Cost $99 USD. I've had other kinds--which are very heavy in comparison. I have also used the kinds that twist to lock, but they...

Seeing the Altamira Cave & Museum from Santillana del Mar

It's not a particularly hard walk for someone who has been on the Camino already. Most people (tourists) drive or come by bus, but walking is pleasant--unless raining, I suppose :-) We went at opening time and had no problem getting in quickly.

    Del Norte in Spring 2018

Indeed there is so much to say that I am writing a book about it :-) Yes, a sleeping bag. The weather is so changeable that the locals know to take it with a grain of salt. We had predictions of rain during our May/June times there probably the majority of days, but few actual rainy...

Starting to plan for my del Norte camino

I think including Santander would work well with kids--some wonderful parks and if there is a festival going on, you'll definitely enjoy it.

Camino Del Norte or Camino Frances? June 2017

I am going to offer a brief and different perspective--the environment/your surroundings. I'm not saying that one is "better" than the other, just that there are unique features to each. The Norte is a very different experience in terms of the sites that you will see. The large cities in the...

    New video, Irun - Santander

Brings back wonderful memories. We walked the Norte first part 2015, last part 2016.
