I enjoyed the walk from the Cathedral - not the least getting used to finding the arrows! And passing the 1000 kilometres to Santiago marker next to the Avenida Expo 92 was special. Look for Monolito Camino de Santiago, 41010 Sevilla, Spain on google maps (although it was a little worn) I turned...
I left Seville on the 7th of April and took a silk inner and sleeping bag (good down to approx 0 degrees Celsius). I used it opened as a blanket and only closed it up a couple of nights - notably in the Monastery of Oseira! I did use gloves in the frosty mornings too.
Hey Rain - I did! Best decision I made. I used the hiking umbrella in very heavy rain on several days. It was spring! No poncho or waterproof. I’m going to use the same system again on my next Camino.
Pretty much the same time I walked the VdlP from Seville. Beautiful time to walk - cold, even frosty mornings (gloves needed) and sunny warm afternoons. I only experienced rain off and on from Merida to Cáceres - where it hosed down with thunder and lightning. Then intermittent rain in Galicia...
I walked in spring from Seville. 37 days, including two rest days (Merida and Salamanca) and another couple enforced medical days (infected blisters) in Zafra. I felt it was a bit rushed and over too soon! My next one will be slower, I hope!
When I walked the VdlP in 2016 I stayed in the albergue in Tabara. Great hospitality - the hospitalero, José Almeida Rodríguez, met each pilgrim, helped us take off our packs, washed our clothes, cooked the communal dinner, washed the dishes and among other things, farewell each of us! Everyone...
Hey Dougie - as you'll know it all depends on your tolerance to cold and what the weather is doing. I couldn't sleep if I were cold. I took a sleeping bag when I walked the VdlP, beginning at the end of March and finishing at the beginning of May. It was quite cold in the hills of Galicia. I...
Hey Etty_S. There is a huge Decathlon store at Camas just a little off the VdlP camino. You pass it on the first day out of Sevilla. I walked out there and back the day before I began the camino proper in 2016 to get some stuff. It seemed to have mostly own brands. The walk was great for getting...
I walked the VdlP a couple of years ago, leaving from Sevilla Cathedral. I loved the section from Sevilla to Guillena - with the exception of the short section just before Camas. And that was because of the litter. And my nerves after reading about others’ experiences on this forum. The...
I count as a true pilgrimage my first visit to Santiago - by sleeper train! For me the attitude of spiritual awareness is what makes a true pilgrimage - for those of all faiths and of none. What I disliked when I finally walked the VdlP (without benefit of wheels motorised or otherwise thanks to...
I found it relatively easy to do from the cathedral - mind you I'd checked on google earth and maps before arriving and had a bit of a look around on a couple of days in Seville. Spotting the arrows becomes easier when you're actually looking for them! It amazed me how often I'd overlooked them...
As far as I remember there are three modes of hospitality at the monastery: in the albergue, dormitory style accommodation and you look after yourself for meals; as a retreatant, where you stay in a "cell" and eat in the monastery guest dining room and spend days in silent prayer; and as a...
I stayed there last year in the first week of May for an evening. Only one bar in the village was open - and it was quite expensive and the food was pretty average. I think it was called Bar Caracas or Venezuela - some name associated with Venezuela anyway. The monastery is really interesting -...
I also went left - fooled by the signs, which seemed to be a cynical re-routing of the Camino to lead pilgrims to the hostel. I arrived there and asked at the gas station whereabouts the monastery was, only to be told it was some kilometers away, along the road. I was so annoyed I double quick...
