Wish I had taken a tub of vasoline with me because I have blisters now which are painful and I have had to stop walking and it was my day 3 of the Camino. Feeling :(
I agree the right socks are key however, nothing can really prepare you for the long continuous, day after day, pounding on your feet. I know of a marathon runner who uses Vaseline on their feet and then places socks on top and has never had a single blister.
I have used Vaseline with some...
I found the Zamberlan too heavy - comfy but heavy and I got major blisters on the heels on day 2. I tried them on again a few weeks back and thought no way am i wearing these again on the Camino. I tried on lots of shoes and went with a Merrell Siren Edge because it is lightweight, as in very...
Don't stress out for goodness sakes. Look at what you want to take then take out what you really know you don't need. This forum is great but geesh sometimes people go overboard on their comments. Relax and enjoy the process of preparing to go. This is meant to be a fun and awesome experience...
That's easy to say when you are a man and you have not much hair! We girlies with long hair would end up with a frizzed and dried mat of hair on our heads if we did that. Me? I am taking shampoo and conditioner, small tubes tho :)
Arnica cream for the calves, mascara, moisturiser and Ancient Minerals Magnesium oil to rub on my legs each morning before walking. Loosens the muscles!
Be careful of the Vodaphone sim card in Spain. When I was there in 2013 I would receive several texts each day telling me how much I had left on it. The value was going down every time I got a text from them and there was no way of stopping it. I then learnt I could use WiFi in bars and cafés...
That was the time I walked in 2013 - I wore thongs (flip flops) at the end of the day and never needed socks. If you get some toe socks it is easy then :)
I used a few different ones I downloaded - Can't remember which ones but got them through Google store - worked really well. I had a chat with a lady in a café one day about her cute little perro (dog). It is helpful but to be honest I rarely used it because most people could speak enough...
Like everything we do, it is a personal choice of what to take on the Camino. I personally would not bother. I walked for about a week with a guy from Tasmania who used them only once on the whole of the Camino. If you have quick drying hiking pants and you do get wet the consolation is that...
I trained for months before my last Camino and nothing prepared me for the crushed gravel like paths and the never ending hills. Training was achieved on the way :)
I also switched shoes for boots 7 weeks before I left for my trip and suffered horrible blisters on the heel area, right beneath...
