We generally tried to give a polite "We know what we're doing, thanks." Most people were okay with it but I wish I could shake the memory of a particularly snarky pilgrim office volunteer. It was not a kind send off and still irks me years later!
I realise your advice is geared towards newbies, but I'm not sure it's helpful to give such strict numbers when it's likely to cause some anxiety and possibly take some of the enjoyment out of it because of that kind of pressure. There has to be leeway for personal preferences, and also leeway...
Going to have to disagree, too. Most of my experience is multi-day hiking in Australia, so that's what my gear is well, geared for. I wear boots to prevent snake bites and I always take at least two litres of water because I drink it and come from a place where water can be scarce. I'm not going...
I've had problems with plantar faciitis, too, including when I walked my camino. I found that with arch supports in my hiking boots, my Teva sandals and an ankle strap with arch bracing (I picked that up half-way along) it was very manageable. Most days it didn't bother me at all. Like you...
Sports bras are my preference. It took a lot of searching but I managed to find three that would fit my E cups and kind of compress them a bit too. I got ones specifically designed for runners with large breasts (no wire but very supportive). Oddly enough the top name brand ones were all rubbish...
I was going to wait to buy one in SJPP but then I discovered that our Scout Shop sells them here for a really good price. Might be worth getting one before you go if you are checking any bags.
Thanks, I've only taken them out on a practice hike so far but they really did help prevent my hands swelling so I'd like to use them. Hopefully it won't take much to become fully accustomed to using them with the straps on. I've watched a few of those videos and they were quite informative.
I come from a family of photographers, documenting our travels and even just our gatherings and revisiting them at family get-togethers has always been one of our most beloved activities, along with telling all the stories that went with the experience we recorded. I don't really understand the...
I'm just weighing up whether I'm going to get too frustrated dropping them every five minutes to take a photo or not. My hands swell when I walk, so I want them to avoid that and help my balance as I have arthritis in my feet. Compromise it is!
Take a look at this thread, it's got some really useful reviews and advice from experienced barefooters:

I bought one New Balance and one Adidas to try out. The New Balance one is great and very quick drying, it's also got flat seams. The Adidas one isn't quite as supportive but still very quick drying. I'm big busted, too so I find it really hard to get a sports bra that is big enough but both of...
Thank you both. I thought it might be easier to get one there than have to get it delivered here (I've had a pocket knife confiscated by customs before after ordering online) and then have to get it back overseas again, but I'm very impressed with their prices, so it might be worth risking it...
Before I went to Jordan I kept seeing neck warmers featured in camping stores, and considering I was going to Jordan in winter with snow and the odd flash flood I thought it might be worth taking a scarf or something anyway, but there was no way I was going to pay upwards of $40 for a small tube...
You can probably cut down on your first aid kit as there will be pharmacies along the way. If you keep it just to the basics you can always get more if you need it.
The shampoo/soap/laundry detergent is also something you can combine so that you won't need to carry three separate things, but...
I wear toe socks religiously. I have arthritis in my foot and my toes squish together, so toe socks really help to keep them separated. Also, they can often be found in all kinds of fun colours! I find they keep my feet much warmer and also help prevent ingrown toenails which I was prone to getting.
we never had a problem with that method, though we'd usually make sure the silicone "gripped" the fabric a bit on each edge, just to give it a bit of extra strength. This worked on stage because you couldn't see it unless it was up close, but even then, if you smooth it over it's not too...
Cut out the pattern and bond the seams with silicone instead. We used to do it for some of the dancers costumes back when I worked in theatre (sometimes they were completely made from silicone...designers, hey?). Helps with the waterproofing.
