Things I'd bring, who cares about the weight

A small can of WD 40. Solves the incessant squeaking of doors and makes albergue life much more enjoyable.

New list of bonus items to pack?

A small can of WD 40 lubricant to deal with the incessant squeaky hinges, particularly the ones on the door to the loo twice per night. A pet peeve of mine.

Primitivo - May - reducing backpack weight

I did the Primitivo in mid May of 2017. My 5c sleeping bag (850 gram) was a bit much but there were nights when I really appreciated it. Next time I will use shoes rather than boots. I think the weight difference will be noticeable. Someone once told me that a pound on your feet is like 5 on...

Smart Packing and Unexpected Backpack Items

I did the CF in 2014 and was amazed at how squeaky the doors were. Very disturbing during sleep time. In 2017 I took a small canister of penetrating oil (WD40). Breaks all the weight rules (100 grams) but it was nice to solve an annoyance for everyone.

    sleeping bags-necesario ?

Hola Tincatinker; I have a silk liner as well, the bed sheet and pillow case are intended to keep some protection between my bag/liner and my head and the well used mattress and pillow. I will be starting my Camino on April 25th and assume I am at the early point in the season so things should...

    sleeping bags-necesario ?

I have read that we should bring our own Permitherin treated sheet and pillow case, mainly to deal with the potential bed bug problem but also for cleanliness. I am trying desperately to trim down my pack weight and would really like to ditch this weight (20 oz). Thoughts?

    A Sleeping Bag Testimony

I will opt for the silk liner as it is about 1/2 the weight of cotton. Also , as a fellow I met who had thru hiked the AT said, silk is just a little bit of luxury in an otherwise minimalist journey.

    Internet access?

Starting my Camino in late April and have been planning to not take a smartphone etc. Are Internet stations frequently available?

    Trekking poles

Hola Dougfitz; I have read a few comments about using trekking poles correctly but don't quite understand what is meant. I have been training with them and have adopted a style where on flat or uphill the pole is planted approximately in line with the heel of the opposite foot. Downhill the...
