Hopefully I will have time in Santiago to purchase a SIM before leaving for O’Cebrerio. Wondering if there is a place to purchase a SIM installed and activated in Sarria if I get pressed for time. I’ve looked on-line but not clear if there is an actual store where such services are available...
Thanks everyone! My pacer poles have done 2 Camino’s and getting ready for a third.. I hate the clacking sound of poles without tips. I will take them over to EMS and see what works. Knowing that you’ve been able to find replacements is helpful.
The rubber tips on my pacer poles have worn completely thru so that the carbide tips are exposed. I live in the USA so pacer pole replacement parts are not available here. I leave in less than two weeks and wonder if leki rubber tips will work. Thanks.
Everything I took with the exception of my pack towel which was lost in Roncesvalles—big pile of laundry (cold, rainy day so they offered to dry stuff in the dryers). even had my name in big, bold letters. Oh well, purchased a cotton tea towel in Pamplona that served me well for the rest of...
There aren’t always blankets and some of the ones available aren’t particularly clean. But you will most likely be ok with a liner in August and early September. There may be a night or two when you’ll need to put on whatever layers of clothing you have to keep warm. I also found that my...
I’ve done three Camino’s and getting ready for number four this fall. Each time I’ve carried my Osprey exo 48/46. I also use it for weekend hiking trips. It is a great, lightweight pack — mine is the 2009 model—grey and orange. Saw lots of them on the Camino. You don’t have to fill them up...
If it has been a hot day, I wash them. If cold, perhaps not. If dusty trail, yes. If rocky, paved, perhaps not. So much depends on your feet and conditions. It also depends on whether sock are merino wool or not. I do not go more than two days without washing as it restores the “bounce.”...
I’m a Liggetts girl. Cut it into 4ths so only used the smaller cube. Kept the rest in great shape. Only ended up using half a bar for 30 days. Also carried a 1/4 of a bar of FelsNaprha for clothes washing.
Oofos slides for me. Lightweight and the arch/footbed support is just right for me. I can wear light socks with them too. I use them around the house as slippers.
I’ve used the exos48 on my Camino’s—using it again this fall. It doesn’t open at the bottom but a solid, lightweight bag without lots of weight inducing bells and whistles. Call it my Camino amigo. I don’t like bits hanging off the back so it holds everything I need and is a comfortable...
Another very satisfied pacerpole user. I am in the 70+ group and swear by the extra stability. Downhills are especially treacherous for older walkers. We did Porto to Santiago and I used them daily. There are some rocky downhills on this route which I know I would have dreaded without...
One suggestion. Try walking five plus miles with each pack loaded as you would on the Camino (the day pack packed for rain/bad weather). The only one who can tell you what works for you is you. I carry an Osprey Exos 48. I carry a Rumpl throw and a silk liner for sleeping and 3 tops and two...
