Do I need a phone? What's your experience?
I took a stock standard Nokia, bought a Spanish prepaid SIM card & promptly forgot about it's existence!!... Only had to dig it out of the bag twice, in the later stages of my walk to call a taxi for an injured friend & check up on her well being... Yeh, think it may be more about the ritual & ceremony of stopping & taking a moment to appreciate....what better way that clutching a hot cup of something delicious....one of my favourite travel pics from 25 years ago finds me rugged up & clutching a tin mug of chai at Annapurna Base camp...- bimblingalong

sleeping bags-necesario ?
For me, my 600grm, 2 season sleeping bag is the first thing I pack, for warmth, comfort& a little protection against the dreaded chinches....a bout with the blighters in Viana in 2010 has left me wary to say the least.... This was my most useful "extra" too...a small jar of lavender/ sandalwood essential oils...a multi purpose deodoriser, post blister popping antiseptic, foot soak, "perfume", clothes freshener & sleep aid!!:-)- bimblingalong
