This doesn't make sense really.
Everytime you use your camera you are advertising it to any people who might be of the disposition to steal it - so you are already more attractive to potential thieves. Also my camera and a lens would cost me £4k to replace - totally different to a mobile phone...
I didn't carry a wallet. I had a bank card stashed away in my ruck-sack for cash points. Other than that everything was done via my phone. My phone and passport stayed in my back-pack for showers etc, or sometime the phone would be left charging. Only once did I ever feel the need to take these...
I haven't done either Salvador or Primitivo (yet), but I do know from the CF that the good cushioned soles of my trail runners were very welcome on the asphalt sections, yet they still had great grip on the more tricky sections. Buying some in Oviedo would be a good call IMO, especially if your...
I think anything but the cheapest trail runners would be ok for the 2 weeks of the beautiful Primitivo, with Asics you would hope that the quality will be more than sufficient.
Tbf I would have loved to have taken my camera, but, I think all of the negatives outweigh the positives. If you have a decent phone (mine some Sony Xperia thing) then 99% of the time it is going to suffice for what you want/need. Sure, there were times when I would have killed for my DSLR, but...
Well it has to be the 24-70 over the 50.
I'm not sure of your experience of Albergues, but they seldom have secure storage for the like, and advice is always to carry valuables with you at all times.
You may get funny/alarmed looks taking a camera into the shower with you.
Although I have to...
Well I didn't take a DSLR, so not technically allowed to answer this, but. . .
It is the vista's, they are beautiful, so probably a 16-35 is going to be your best friend with a bit of wiggle room. But then you maybe want to try and get some portraits of other pilgrims. . .So like everything...
There are no guarantees a camino in June is going to be warm all of the time, similarly, there are no guarantees Albergues will have blankets if you need them, or if they do that they will be useable/agreeable.
It's a predicament without an easy answer as you may have no problems at all, but then again you might.
Carrying a tent on the off chance though is quite a commitment and potential pain in the ar5e.
Well for sure the section down from Cruz de Ferro to Molinaseca is one of the most demanding descents on the CF, but you should be ok in what you are suggesting, I think especially if you are using walking poles?
Beautiful words as always.
I totally understand, and there were many times I wished I'd had my camera. But it just wouldn't have worked for me, because very few if any of the Albergues had secure lockers so if travelling alone it's not really viable to leave several thousand pounds worth of...
I love my photography, but carrying an expensive camera and potentially multiple lenses just doesn't really work unless you are on some production expedition. The first thing is what do you do with it when you go shower etc (assuming you stay in Albergues)? And secondly, I think it would...
You're certainly better off not taking the big heavy jacket, as you will have very minimal use for this versus the pain of carrying it. Instead just take layers, so your lightweight windbreaker and then maybe a fleece top which tend to be very light and can be used as an extra layer, and also an...
