    My Camino shopping

Great finds! However, you might want to try that bag with the shoulder strap as is, since you'll want to keep your valuables with you at all times. Or are you planning on using a bumbag for that and this for something else? I personally prefer to use a cross-body bag for my passport, money...

For Sale/Wanted SOLD Macabi skirt, Large Short, dark grey for sale

Just bought a Macabi skirt off Ebay thinking it was the knee-length version, but it is a Short length normal one and not really what I wanted. I could modify it, but the thought of taking scissors to a Macabi ... 😬 With the cost of having a Macabi imported to Europe/UK, surely there is someone...

Hoka Shoe Owners: Speedgoat 5 or the Bondi 8?

The vibram sole of the Speedgoats will last much longer than non-vibram in my experience, and I have got at least 800 km out of every pair I have worn. They seem to grip well on wet and slippy surfaces and are very stable, supportive and durable.

    Christmas gift help

(sorry, I meant Talon 36, have edited)

    Christmas gift help

My husband is tall and found that Osprey's old Talon 44 in a L worked very well, but the Talon 36 in the new L/XL is even better, both for the back length and bucket zip opening. For him, the Stratos M/L size was only just about long enough, and the Kestrel also comes in a M/L if I remember...

    Sleeping bag versus puffy blanket

Sorry, I didn't see the quote until now but I see you have already got good and thorough answers from knowledgeable camino veterans. Just want to add that I was referring to a bag or liner being a barrier between you and (all the pilgrims who have slept in or will sleep in) your bed. I always...

    Sleeping bag versus puffy blanket

I invested in the Sea to Summit Traveler 1, which is very light and can be used as a sleeping bag or opened up as a quilt. It has no hood, so the zip can go on either side or straight down the front. I love the way the two-way zip can hold it together over the middle while letting my feet and...

Women who wear shirts.... please share

True, so I only use my black one in the evening for 'dressing up' (such as it is) and all my merino walking tops are shades of grey 😄 The white one is nowhere near white anymore though and never will be again, but it is the best thing ever to walk in, so light and cool, and really protects from...

Women who wear shirts.... please share

I wear a Craghoppers nearly-white SPF lightweight button-up shirt as sun protection, and it looked good before I started doing the camino with it ... but I also have a black Columbia Silver Ridge one that I wear as a lightweight top or even jacket/cardi in the evening, that looks smart enough...

    Hiking skirts ... For men

The wonderful Mandy at Purple Rain Adventure Skirts also makes kilts for guys and girls, with a wide yoga waist band and very handy pockets. I have a few of the skirts and *love* them for camino walking, so practical and cool!

Lost and Found QR codes for your gear

Great idea! I believe most lost items are a case of mistaken identity or packing mishaps, so this would clear things up pretty quickly. I love that Spain, at least the parts of the camino where I have been since the pandemic, still uses the QR codes for menus - no more icky sticky menu books and...

    Hokas with wet grip?

Some of the Hoka models have Vibram soles, off the top of my head Speedgoats and Mafates. I love my Speedgoats because of the superb comfort and grip!

    Walking Sticks! (yes, i know)

I use Pacerpoles - love, love, love my Pacers - and according to the info and video online I am supposed to set them to a length that gives me a 90 degree elbow angle and plant the tip behind me, not in front. If you are using poles for balance, keeping them in front of you seems to be the best...

    Yet another sleeping bag question!

Just had a brainwave and made a similar, but less permanent arrangement: I have cut a BD down throw in two equal pieces, took one of them, sewed buttons to each bottom end, put it inside a silk liner with a zip, then matched up the throw and liner with the button at each bottom corner, and put...

    Macabi skirt sizing/slim/usage

Thank you thank you thank you for the link! I knew I had seen them and wanted one but couldn't for the life of me remember the brand name - even if it is pretty self-explanatory 🙄 Now safely bookmarked. I used to have a (few) Macabi skirts as well but being very tall they had to hang on my hips...

Join the quest for the perfect panel loading camino pack?

Back again - short update on a very short walk as I only got a 26 km day in before I took a tumble off a tiny hard-to-spot step and badly bruised my foot, which was the end of my walk. My 40L pack weighed 6 kg on arrival but I had a small bag to take onboard, and it was probably nearer 8 kg by...

Very happy with my new pacer poles.

I once asked a hospitaler@ - very nicely - why they wouldn't let me take the poles into the albergue, explained about the handles, not easily replaceable etc, and apart from mentioning that surely my shoes were also expensive and very carefully chosen (true) and that I was willing to leave them...

    My shower "caddy"

Ooh, that's clever! I usually keep all toiletries in my shower bag, a Decathlon packable messenger with long strap that goes over stall and shower doors, or hang from a Heroclip somewhere. I put fresh clothes inside, plus my towel, and my elastic clothes line in the little pack-it-pocket; then...

Very happy with my new pacer poles.

Welcome to the club! I type for a living and initially got them to save my wrists from those straight poles and loopy straps. They are my rocket engines going up hill and hand brakes going down, they take some weight off my dodgy knee and hip and keep my hands from swelling. Wouldn't dream of...
