How to call a US cell number from the US (when the phone is in Spain)

In 2019, my mom called me at 3am whilst I was asleep my first night in Spain sleeping in a hostel. That’s how I realized my phone was working in Spain sans SIM card, or this or that.

Perfect solution (I hope..) sleeping system

Based upon this thread, the Not thread, and others I begin to wonder. I wonder if we pilgrims are a collective group of frustrated stand-up comedians.

What clothes to wear at night?

Gosh! I was gonna quote a line from Twilight Zone episode. But, you’re from across the pond. So, all I can say is: LMAO!

What clothes to wear at night?

I second that emotion. Been wearing only my birthday suit to bed since I was 12. I enter sleeping bag covered, exit covered. In between my business, and only my business. Never has anyone seen my empress clothing.

My sleeping bag is too tight

Search for extra wide sleeping bags for men on Amazon, REI, and other websites. Buen camino.

What should I do about a phone?

In 2019, I was on yet another Camino. At the time I used Sprint. Unbeknownst to me my phone had automatically switched to a Spanish carrier. I discovered it the first night in Spain when my mom called me from Los Angeles at 3am Spanish time. The international plan’s expense was nominal. If...

Say No! to rubber tips on your poles.

Switch blades are illegal in California per PC 21510. I second that emotion; it’s good to have Dave back bugging we all.

Can you convince me NOT to take paper copies?

Paper. Take it. Digital fails from time to time. Buen camino.

A word of warning on trail runners or light weight shoes.

Nike running shoes are a must have for me on camino. I have to roll through my feet otherwise my ankles scream. However, I have same problem at 30 km my ankles are okay, but by 40 my feet ache. Maybe I will investigate a more hard wearing shoe that allows me to roll through my feet.

Share your backpack choice with your body info!

I am 5’1 with long legs. In 2001, 2002 very fit at 110 pounds. Won’t mention weight in other treks to Santiago. During winter camino 2014, once I arrived in Pamplona three days after starting in SJPP, I gave away my nice pack purchased at nice sporting goods store, packed with too many nice...

Where do you carry your valuables?

BTW. Make copies of your ID. Place somewhere other than rest of valuables. Just in case unthinkable happens. You can identify yourself.

Where do you carry your valuables?

Always take valuables with you to shower. In 2002, one morning a German pilgrim left his fanny pack with all his ID, all his money, cards, tickets, and pilgrim’s credential hanging on bunk bed post then headed to shower. Needless to say upon return it was gone. As were most pilgrims. Anyone...

I don’t like mummy sleeping bags

I don’t like mummy bags either. Try Costco. Sometimes they have lightweight rectangular bags on offer.
