I have used K~eens on as much as 75% of the Classic Frances and no blisters they are fine for me, but try them out and let us all know how they work out. After all there is always Compeed.

    Salomon shoes and sizing up

All that I can do is add to your confusion I had a pair of said shoes and they were ok but after about 200+ miles last year I found them too tight for my feet and I went back to good old Merrels and this year was so much more comfortable. The assistant in the shop told me that, in general...

    Shoes, boots and or sandals

Hi Jan We have walked the Camino from St Jean twice and a few other sections of the Frances and for me the choice is as you have outlined a pair of walking shoes or boots + Keens I have never had blisters with the Keens which I adopted after my first Camino and I would say that each time I use...

Shoe Input - first camino in Summer

Hi Symphony you are totally correct in putting your footwear first. On our first camino my wife walked 350miles with no heel on one foot due to a bad choice of footwear. On our second camino a combination of Keen sandals and Merrels did the trick no blisters for either of us, being able to...

    Wet weather clothing

For us there is only one answer for the camino Poncho. Back here in Ireland wet gear suits fine but some of the rain in Spain is of a totally different nature. Our solution, for what it is worth, is an ultra light jacket (which is good for heat and fine in misty/drizzle conditions, only weighs a...

    1st Camino

One thing leaps out at me and that is the 3l water bladder=3kg=6.6lbs. That is a lot of extra weight and I have found that a little disposible bottle is sufficent and over a large portion of the Frances you can get coffee, tea, coke etc every few Km. On more personal note I have found ponchos...

SJPdP -> SdC May/June layering question

We have walked the Frances twice at this time and found that an ultra lightweight jacket coupled with a tee shirt and in the mornings a fleece was more than adequate and when it rains and boy does it rain he safest thing is the poncho, but others may, no will, disagree.

    Anyone wash their Osprey?

That is the product that I used and just let it soak in the bath rinsed and hung it out great job, just as well because I don't know one end of a washing machine from the other. I'm spoiled!

    Anyone wash their Osprey?

I washed my wife's Osprey in the bath with a solution that I bought in Cotwold's Outdoor store and it has been from St Jean to Santiago twice. It came up like new as did my own pack

    Keen Sandals???

I am currently walking the Frances and I have been alternating between Keens and Merrels and the Keens have been very comfortable with only the occasional stone getting in.On the downside around Carrion the stitching went on one of the straps I can still walk in them but I only use them now in...

Aghhhh!! My water proof boots aren't

We are leaving SJ next Wed and we had a whole debate on line about what to wear and we had thought about Keen sandals I had my doubts, but about a month ago we bought them and honestly they are marvellous They are light I have not had one stone inside and I could walk forever in them. On our...

    Keen Sandals

Bought the Keens today and they fitted like a glove for both of us the test will come when we wear them and and the question is whether or not we take our leather Bergus boots with one Frances on them or our Merrill approach shoes for the mud and rain. The Bergus are like old friends and you...

    Keen Sandals

Thanks, strange you have the same combination of names as ourselves. it is good to hear that they are comfortable and the stones we had worked out, but we were concerned about the slipping about underfoot. Once again thanks for your help.

    Keen Sandals

We set out from St Jean in exactly 8 weeks time. Last time on the Frances our boots got soaked outside Estella and took 5 days to dry out and so we decided that this time we would have a pair of multi purpose sandles and thought that Keens would be a good choice, but now we are not so sure. Does...
