Apparently a pair of Merrell Moab GTX boots can last about 1,200 miles or 1,900 kilometres. If you get maximum distance (reports of these distances achieved on the Appalachian route in America) you should be able to do the Camino Frances twice. :)
The pack I bought is a Fishpond (designed for anglers). I have an image of it on my blog site, I think the lastost - http://rglongpre.ca/pilgrim/ - I have to admit it more than pleases me.
I am curious as to people's experiences with either Injiji or Smartwool socks with toes in terms of blister control. I have my baby toes fold under causing blisters regardless o other strategies.
If I use both lumbar and backpack do both weights need to equal 10% of body weight? I am using the fanny pack to hold camera and quick access to first aid kit. I am hoping that it distributes weight better allowing for an "extra".
Great News! We bought ours yesterday and immediately were able to hike about 5km in them followed by a few more hours of ordinary strolling around in them.
This is good information. I am currently looking at the closed toe lightweight model - good for water, mud, and rough terrain like I encountered from Le Puy to Figeac. Thanks, Kiwi family :)
I have been looking to replace my walking shoes (Merrill) with walking sandals such as the Keen CNX brand. Would this be a mistake for hiking the camino?

Boxers versus briefs, especially brief briefs. No creeping issues with legs to worry about. Is less better? That said, is it best without? Honest questions to be asked. I must admit I don't like boxers, even the UnderArmour style that cling like cycling racing shorts.
