    Shoes

I don't know those shoes. What I know is lots of folks will advise about shoes. I can tell you what I wear. But it won't be advice. I've seen just about every kind of shoe I can imagine on the Camino. A story. Once I was in REI shopping for something else for my upcoming Camino (I had already...

How long should a pair of shoes last?

I wear Brooks running shoes. Brooks says running they should last at least 200 miles. Last year I walked Camino Portugues and rewalked sections of the Frances--probably about 350 miles. I continued to wear these shoes back home. The tread is still pretty good. I'm not heavy--about 140...

Is there any reason why I need more than 2 outfits?

You will be fine. I wear one set of outer clothes, pack one other set. For longer walks, I take two changes of undergarments and socks, just so I can go two days without washing (I never washed my outer clothes every day).

What is your 2nd footwear item?

I walk in Brooks running shoes. But I never give advice on shoes, except--you must know that they work for you. You must have walked in them enough. Having said that, I walk in lightweight Brooks running shoes. My second pair is a pair of gortex treated running shoes that serve as my second...

My Pack Is Too Heavy: Woe Is Me!

I've walked 3 times. I'm a guy, so I'm not going to give advice--you've already gotten some really helpful ideas from other pilgrims. I guess what I want to say is this: you might not have the same experience, but the freedom I felt by carrying only what one needs for one or two days, was one...

Do you want to go lightweight? If so....

I tried the silk liner from REI. Had the same experience as you. Returned it. I bought silk and had a friend make me one with a long zipper on the side which makes it easy to get in and out of. Also a small pocket at head just the size of a little blow-up pillow I have. The zipper does make...

    Essential items to leave behind?

I found the book: To Walk Far, Carry Less, by Jean-Christie Ashmore, to be very helpful.

    Essential items to leave behind?

You've received much good advice here. I would reinforce a couple of things. You don't need a sleeping bag--only a silk liner. Most albergues have blankets if you need one. And if you are cold you can sleep in your clothes for the next day. Then you don't even have to spend time dressing...
