Have gotten horrid colds or a bad stomach virus on every Camino except the Portuguese Camino that I just finished on Friday. Add in the broken wrist that sent me home on one Camino and I longed for just one normal Camino!
Got it this time, so maybe the sickness bad luck streak is finally...
It helps if there is a common room in your albergue, where you can go for a while. Sometimes I simply lay there, counting the bells every 15 min. in the neighboring church. If I don't get a lot of sleep, I don't stress about it, it will just be a day with little sleep. Pretend it was a study...
Have been wearing nylon knee highs under my socks for years with no blisters, but on the Portuguese Camino, when I fell in a creek and ended up with boots filled with water, had to keep walking for another 4 hours. Still, no blisters. We used newspapers and a blow dryer all evening and morning...
Have been wearing nylons under my socks, with both or them turned inside out for 5 Caminos, as well as when I have long days of working as a tour guide or with new boots. Have never had a blister. They are cheap, and light. Compared to the price of silk liners, a huge bargain. It doesn't matter...
Love my goretex hiking boots, and have never had a blister on 5 Caminos. Why? Because I double sock but with nylons under my socks. Just cheap, nylon knee highs. Turn both inside out so the seams do not rub.
What works for one person does not always work for the next one. Met a woman who used...
I get up several times a night too. I often offer to take the bed nearest the WC, cause most people do not want it.
Only 1-2 times was it so dark that I could not see, or people had their packs laying half in the middle of the floor and I tripped over them. I often just take my phone and use...
As a note, not every town has a Farmacia. Having experienced a dire need for immodium, and it being a holiday as well as a Sunday, and 2 small towns in a row, it was a very uncomfortable 2 days.
The nylons under socks is my method and in 5 Caminos have never had a blister. I do this every time...
Sticking with wearing nylon knee highs under my socks & turning both inside out. Easy & cheap. 5 Caminos & no blisters. My podiatrist agrees that this is a good solution.
You can also use a small device called Bite Away. It uses a small amount of direct heat to stop the itching. Works great on mosquito bites & any itching bites. We have one as do the neighbors. Wonderful for summer in Germany. Haven’t tried it for chiggers or mites but their website might list that.
Mine is small. A few ibuprofen, some pills for my IBS in case I eat things I shouldn't, a couple of bandaids, 4 migraine pills, several cold pills for stuffed head at night, (I had 2 colds this past spring) tiny tube of antibiotic cream, and usually buy some Volteren pills when I get there.
I wear my boots about a month before leaving, but always wear nylons under my socks on the Camino. Have yet to get a blister and have walked 4 times. I use this same sock combination at home with my new boots as I do walk for a living as a tour guide. Certainly saves weight in my pack and my...
Sock liners of some sort may be your answer.
Many people like iniji, others like silk or the REI liners. I go with either knee high nylons or a similar sort made out of cotton or bamboo. (can't afford silk)
I walk for a living as a tour guide and this combo works really well for me. I do wear...
As a sober Alcoholic, had zero problems declining drinks. There was no pressure.
Being around those who over-indulged wasn't that much fun and inspired me to seek out those who either didn't drink or who only drank a little. It never felt like a problem though.
Lots of English speaking...
I just wear either liner socks or nylons with my wool socks. No blisters, no need to carry vaseline or tape. I do have some foot glide that I put on my one little toe that has a corn on it.
That does not look like scabies at all. With scabies, it would affect the palms of your hands, between your fingers, the crook of your elbow, back of your knee and be more of a weeping, fluid-filled blister. At night it would be worse.
Do go to a dermatologist to see what it is.
