Agreed on costs for sure…last two long walks were PEI Island Walk in Canada which was likely 3x4 times the cost and the Wainwright Coast to Coast which was likely 4x+ any Camino route I have walked.
I knew this ahead of time…so no surprises on either walk and frankly no regrets however having...
I walked both recently and also give them each 5 stars.
Sep 2022 - Camino Primitivo and San Salvador. Of the 8 Camino routes I have walked the Camino Primitivo from Oviedo to Santiago de Compostela and the Via Gebennensis from Geneva to Le Puy en Velay are my favourites. You will fully enjoy...
Totally agree here…have had the good fortune to walk 8 Camino routes…Primitivo the 7th. It is my favourite route (well may be tied with Via Gebennensis) go at your own pace and it will be great! Hope you have good weather and can walk the Hospitales route…really amazing walking. Buen Camino!
Buen Camino…may the HOKA Speedgoats work as well for you as they did for me on the Camino Primitivo last fall. You are in for a superb time on the Camino Primitivo!
Hi...the update to my Camino Primitivo and San Salvador is simply this...incredible walking...highly recommend both of these routes without question. They were my 7th and 8th Camino routes and they rank up there in terms of enjoyment!
Now I was so very very lucky in that in 17 days walking...no...
Again thank you for very helpful info…I believe you said that you were a few years older than me…you walked the Salvador in 4 days! The math is easy 30km per day with the first day at 37km. Impressive!!!
Out of curiosity was the first day to Pola de Gordon your first day walking or were you...
Many thanks 🙏 for the great information…you have given me some really good alternatives to think about. Agree with later flight to give some flexibility…pilgrim friend from Brazil and I have given ourselves an April 30th timeframe for go/no go decision…however will not hesitate to set off on my...
Will this finally happen after 2+ years? I'm feeling the chances are getting better and better!
Planning underway for Camino San Salvador and Primitivo combination mid September 2022. Attached is a work in progress PDF outlining two options (walking days) Option 1 San Salvador - 5, Primitivo -...
Agreed it's very subjective using a rule like Naismith's and there are so many many variables however for high level planning only...why not? It's fun to plan and then see how far off on is!
So many variables...heat, fatigue, trail conditions (cobblestones, hot asphalt, tree roots after a...
An interesting question and one that I have been asking myself as I plan on walking the Camino Primitivo in 2020. As mentioned there is a formula called the Naismith's rule that attempts to factor in elevation gains/losses and adjusts your pace accordingly.
I have not tested this out in any way...
I have always enjoyed seeing videos prior to walking a Camino route...adds to the excitement and anticipation! Wondering if you have a favourite video (You Tube, Vimeo, other) of the Camino Primitivo?
Is so would appreciate hearing from you!
Thanks
Guy
Thanks Nick for taking the time to outline your stages...much appreciated and very helpful. I find it most interesting to see how there are many different ways to walk a Camino.
Guy
Thanks Jennysa as your perspective given having walked both a couple of times is really great! I have hiked in the Canadian Rockies on many occasions so the comment on spectacular scenery makes me lean to the Camino Primitivo.
I am curious about your comment that the Via Francigena requires...
Thanks Nick. I also was leaning to Camino Primitivo for the same reason you mentioned... a complete Camino has appeal to me as well. I have seen two breakdown of stages Buen Camino app - 11 days on Primitivo and 2 on Frances while the Stingy Nomad website has 12 and 2.
Considering the altitude...
Many thanks John. I was not aware of this app and it is exactly what I was looking for! I have read that the Camino Primitivo is considered the most difficult route into Santiago de Compostela. Sure looks like it!!!
Very early planning stages for me...both routes look quite interesting for a 2...
Hmm...after 6 different Camino routes and 3,000 km (+/5 kms 😊) I really thought I was done. My last Camino on the Portugués route was my toughest...cobblestones, rain, shoe/sock mistakes resulted in painful blisters and I decided that was it! Never again!
Well...maybe not. I have an...
