I haven't done the Primitivo yet - but hopefully will be doing so in July. But May/June is late spring in these mountains so you should have cold nights and mornings and warm days, although there is always potential for the odd heatwave/snow nowadays also.
You do not need to wear boots - a large percentage of people doing these routes would do so in trail runners. On or off the Camino the only time I wear or need boots in the mountains now is if there is snow.
Just a thought, but maybe the El Salvador would be better, as you could then complete the whole Camino.
The Primitivo and El Salvador is a long long way from the Pyrenees, but certainly no less beautiful and you have the added benefits of beautiful cities of Oviedo/Leon.
Either route would...
I'm also going around the same time with my pretend child @harrygodsonofdavejsy (14yr)! We've only got two weeks planned, but I can see us extending to get to Finisterre if everything goes well as we have unfinished business there. Would have loved to have done the Salvador first but I think...
Thank you so much. I must say the route you describe from Lugo (verde/Santa Eulalia/Ferreira/Sobrado) is really appealing, and then joing the CF at Aruza would be a good mix for the youths.
Monte Naranco back-catalog from our 2021 visit. It is the most beautiful place. I just hope it has recovered from the fires of last spring, which incidentally I see they have now charged someone with.
I'm in a similar situation and will hopefully be doing it with my 14yr old godson and potentially one of his friends this coming July. I had the same thoughts about maybe the CF would be more lively for them, but then the primitivo I think gives them a recognised start and end point and a true...
Yes of course the churches are beautiful, but I have visited them before. But we may drive up there beforehand to see them if there is interest from the youths! There is also a rather wonderful restaurant/sidra bar in the way up that overlooks the whole of Oviedo👌
We will in all likelihood arrive in Oviedo sometime on Friday having driven down from Jersey, and I think we won't start until Sunday to try to miss any potential traffic in order we can try and avoid having to book ahead. We will be staying with my friend in the old town, and hopefully she will...
My plan at the moment will be too follow the route I think yourself and maybe @Tincatinker mention in another thread? I need to look it back up. I'm not too bothered about access, although I don't imagine they close off the top where the Christ the redeemer statue thing is? That is the place I...
Is there any pilgrim discount? I may not get away with a senior discount (yet 🙏 )!!
We are in all likelihood going to be there for at least 24 hrs before we start, so won't be in any rush, although it doesn't seem to be open on a Sunday. The plan/dream is to go via Mont Naranco for the sunrise...
Any idea of the opening hours? I'm guessing it's the "Tourist" opening hours listed on the website? assuming it's the same office/desk you get the credential from. . .
Yes this is my thought, that the majority of people will probably be starting Fri/Sat/Sun and so it will be busier on the waves they move through on etc. I'm thinking of starting on a Monday, or perhaps even Sunday if we plan to do a shorter first day. We would then hopefully be behind the...
