Those are some long days. Some young folks I was with on the Primitivo walked Lugo to Santiago in two days. I walked the first 50km's Lugo to Melide but back to back 50's is over the top for an old guy like me.
I just found this thread. A very interesting read.
What strikes me the most other than the rock museum which I missed is you did the entire walk in 6/7 days?
The video above is from April 1st 2016. The walk was from Cercedilla to Segovia 31km's. I went from 17 minute miles to 31 minute miles. Still very doable just a bit more challenging. There were no issues with accommodations but Covid changed that.
Penaflor, as I recall, I found someone to open the Albergue in the bar. They also assisted me in using the washing machine. It was 2016 and I do not recall the cost. There was one bar and a tienda. The bar also served food.
The Muni Albergue in Villalon is one of the nicest I have ever stayed in. Very large with living room tv, large kitchen, nice showers and if I recall a washing machine.
Hi Chrissy,
I love this route and am really surprised it has not become more popular. I look at it as a mini Frances. Mountains in the beginning, Forest and then Meseta to Sahagun. You missed a couple of interesting cities on the way up to the Mountain and the walk over Cercedilla to Segovia is...
I walked this route last Fall and the arrows could definitely use a touching up in Madrid.
The Camino passes Tres Cantos but it is very visible just across the highway. The walkway is right by, what used to be, The Hotel Europa.
This Camino is like a mini Frances, imo. mountains early then...
The Madrid is a very rural walk after Segovia.
I have not seen more postings from Amy since Alcazaren regarding accommodation. Peregrino Paul starts his walk on May 14th and could provide feedback on what is and isn't open. I walked this route Fall 2021 and found accommodation so lacking after...
Bummer, I have never had a reservation there. I just always walked up. If I read the response correctly, there are just not taking reservations in advance. You can always call the day before to check if availability. Is all accommodation in town reserved?
I love this route and have walked the mountain with and without snow. It just seems like every time I read a Madrid live Camino people do not walk over the mountain. I would not want anyone to put themselves in danger but this is the only real challenging day on this Camino. Btw I am (72). I...
Doesn't anyone walk over the mountain anymore? This is a tough, long but beautiful walk (31km's). If you want to shorten the day a little bit, you can stay at the Albergue Juvenal Villa Castora. It is located about two km's up the hill from Cercedilla.
You can easily walk the CM in four weeks (12-14 days), I walked from Madrid to Santiago in 24 days. After Segovia the route is mostly Forest and Meseta. Cercedilla to Segovia is the only tough day. Good climb up the mountain and then a long hike to Segovia. You will be tired.
If you are planning on going down south, you might want to consider the Mozarabe. You can start in either Malaga or Almeria. The route passes through two great cities Granada and Cordoba. It is also well supported by the local association. You can get a flight from Madrid to Almeria.
