    Chemin d'Arles

Stephen, I concur with the sentiments of Anamcara - the Arles-Aragones-Francés to SDC is wonderful, and solitary (until you meet the Francés) My only hint for the start of the walk is Day 2 from Arles, as you enter the Carmargue: take the strongest insect repellent that you can buy and slather...

    Chemin d'Arles

Stephen NZ, This is Bernice NZ. No recommendations re accommodation, as I'm more budget than you. Stayed at the YHA in Arles, as I recall right on the camino. Highly recommend the Chemin d'Arles, but it is very solitary. Also highly recommend the Miam Maim Dodo for maps and accommodation.

    Via Tolosana

I walked Arles-Santiago in September-mid-November 2015. Yes, it was quiet. I walked with other people for about a week, but after Toulouse I walked entirely alone until I reached the Francés at Puente la Reina. I often had albergues to myself. The welcoming party sometimes outnumbered me 3 to 1...

Have You Walked GR653 from Borce to The Col du Somport?

Ness, Company will be a challenge, especially when you get to the Francés. I recall someone saying that at the albergue in Jaca, the heating was on all day, and that it was very pleasant there. I stayed elsewhere and it was freezing. I understand your being rather tired of your own company, but...

Have You Walked GR653 from Borce to The Col du Somport?

Ness, You will have walked or bussed over Somport by now. I hope you are safe and well. I walked from Arles in 2015 and found the section Borce-Somport a challenge, even after weeks of walking. I stopped for lunch well after having crossed over the highway and determined that I was lost. As I...

Newbie needs some help to start camino from South France

Theluther7, Montpellier is on the Arles route. Very nice town. I walked Arles-SDC Sept-Nov 2015, using Miam Miam Dodo for maps and accommodation. I don't speak French, but the information is mainly in symbols. I got a copy from the tourist office in Arles, although you can buy it online (just...

What you need to know before you leave to hike the Chemin d'Arles.

I walked the Chemin d'Arles-Aragones-Frances to SDC September to November 2015, aged 61. The Arles route was lonely, but I always found accommodation, although the food supply was sometimes difficult and I ate at odd times as the opportunity arose. I used Miam Miam Dodo for accommodation and the...

'New route between Villetelle and ?Venargues?

Courtesy of the TGV works, the route has been altered and moved northwards. It increases the distance by 6km. Unfortunately all the gites seem to have is one plan, a poor photocopy, that doesn't make clear the relationship between the two routes. Also the current Miam miam dodo naturally doesn't...

a gite or reasonably priced hotel in Arles?

New meaning to travelling light: Ryanair has 'misplaced' my camino back pack on its London (Stansted)-Tampere route. I now have the clothes I'm wearing and three months' medication in a tiny packable day pack. I'm due in Arles 29 August for three nights before starting the Arles route. Is...

    Starting Arles route beginning September

Ossimate, I'm using Miam Miam Dodo for map and accommodation from Arles, plus the CSJ two part guide. The Miam guide is in French, but has enough symbols for a non-French speaker like me. I'll definitely do the Arles route, but am flexible about continuing on the Frances, Invierno, and...

    Starting Arles route beginning September

Is there anyone beginning the Arles route at the beginning of September? Just having a few qualms about it being rather lonely (although my experience on the VDLP at the same time last year should be encouragement that it will be otherwise). Bernice M
