We walked the Le Puy route to SJPP and continued to Estella where we served as hospitaleros. While SJPP is not like walking into Santiago the first time it was a great experience for us. We got to see and talk with many pilgrims just starting their Camino and were taken in with their...
Very well said Michael. We walked both CF and Le Puy but at different times. Lots of great insight. I like your thoughts on not trying to make the Le Puy route the CF and vice versa. They are completely different experiences and that adds to the beauty of it.
Looking forward to...
Hi, All great advice you've been getting. Trains are easy. Moissac is a good spot to stop. If you have 3 weeks you'll be fine. My wife and I took 17 days to get to Moissac in 2010. Try Gite Ultreia (www.ultreiamoissac.com) in Moissac. Real close to the train station and the...
We walked it in 17 days so 3 weeks will be perfect. We also stayed at the Gite Ultreia in Moissac and it is right by the train station. Rom and Aiden are very helpful and speak English. Easy connections anywhere in France. Enjoy and Bon Camino. Karen and Dayton
You will enjoy either route. We thought the Le Puy route was absolutely beautiful. Of course, the Portuguese route is beautiful as well, in a different sort of way. If you have the time I suggest doing the Portuguese route from Lisbon, not quite as long as from Le Puy to SJPP, but very...
Hi Lama, No, we did the Camino France's in 2009. We did the Le Puy Chemin in 2010/11, the Chemin Arles in 2013 and the Portuguese from Lisbon last spring. River cruise this year!!! If you're ever in London, look us up. We have a great Camino group. Take care. Karen
We stayed with Andre and Odile in 2011 and had a wonderful stay. Every convenience a Pelerin could want was provided. They set the standard for pilgrim/Pelerin friendly accommodations. Dayton and Karen, London, Canada
Hi Desota, If you can go from CDG via train to Part Dieu station in Lyon you can stay at the Novotel Lyon La Part Dieu. It's only 130 meters from the train station. Easy to get to some great sections of Lyon and you can get the train to Le Puy right from there. It usually has an easy...
Hi. My wife and I went to the 7am Mass and then walked to Saint Privat d'Allier with no problem. The next day, if you are heading to Saugues, is more difficult and getting to Saint Privat turned out to be a good idea. All depends on your level of fitness and how much time you have but...
Hi. Most of the towns are fairly easy to navigate in and through. Maybe Figeac or Moissac would be helpful with a map. We always found that most anybody you meet/run into is very helpful with directions. Le Puy is also pretty compact and easy to get around in.
Bon Chemin......Dayton and Karen
Hi, When you get to a gite or chambre d'hote just ask if they have a hair dryer. You'd be surprised how many will lend you one.
Secondly, if you're leaving a guidebook at home I would make it the Alison Raju one and be sure to take the Miam Miam Dodo one. It's invaluable. Bon...
Hi. For Estaing try Hospitalite Saint-Jacques, 8 Rue du College, 05-65-44-19-00. Great communal dinner and breakfast. Operated by volunteers. Real Camino experience. Donativo. Also nice little town.
For Lectoure try Accueil Pelerin chez l'habitant, Daniel and Maryse Segura, 9 chemin de...
Yes, I agree that you should have no problem with allowing for 33 days. We walked it in 29 days with no problems at all. And if you do find yourself tight on time you can always find a bus or taxi, but wait until you really need to. It's a great route and you'll enjoy it. Bon Chemin...
Hi Michelle. My wife and I walked the Le Puy route and also the Arles route in France and she is a vegetarian. We didn't find it a problem at all to get vegetarian meals in the gites. Since most gites want you to call ahead all we did was let them know that we would like a vegetarian meal...
Only thing I might add is to be sure to attend the 7:00 am Mass at the Cathedral. Mostly just Pilgrims and very nice service, regardless of language skills. The Priest, (or Bishop in our case) spoke to each one of us after the Mass, mostly in each of our different languages, and gave each...
The only thing I might add to all the info above is that a lot of the gites offer a private room as well, many with an ensuite. In fact some of the smaller ones will only have one or two rooms. The cost for a private room is usually only a few euros more than sharing a room. As noted above...
Hi, A little late but here's our favourites: All were listed in Miam Miam DoDo. (2010)
St. Privat: Accueil benovole l'Abri pelerin - Gerard Vachon - 04-71-57-25-21 - our first night. Wonderful host. Donativo. Beautiful old chateau.
Aumont-Aubrac: Les Sentiers Fleuris - 04-66-42-94-70 Very...
Karen and I stayed with Odile and Andre at their gite - "Hospitalet Saint Jacques" in Aire-sur-l'Adour on May 1, 2011. It would be at the top of our list of places to stay on the Chemin Le Puy. It was obvious from the first moment we arrived that Odile and Andre were not only experienced...
