We walked the Le Puy route to Santiago starting on July 26, 1916, arriving in Santiago on October 10. I was 66. my wife 63. We had an absolutely wonderful walk, but there was some very hot weather in August. All other things being equal, I would suggest starting in mid-August if you were to...
Weather varies, but it was very hot in 2016 when we walked it in late July and August. I second the comments about the Miam Miam Dodo app, iMiam, which was outstanding. Be sure you get the latest version as the gites information changes from year to year.
Fantastic route with generally outstanding (and always much better than the average Camino Frances) food. I thought it was a bit more difficult than the Camino Francis, but not bad. Do reserve a day or two ahead, and do learn a little French. The French are great walkers and make up the...
I think it will be a problem. The Le Puy route goes through some serious cow county. Beef is pretty expensive, and we didn't see much of it in the gites. At one place we stayed pretty much all they served for dinner was cheese dishes followed by a cheese plate for dessert. Breakfast was three...
If you have an iPhone, Siri now translates - just ask, "Hey Siri, how do you say (whatever)" and she will give you a written translation and then read it for you. This does, however, require WiFi or cellular coverage, but most Gites I stayed at last year have one or both.
Don't count on finding local shops on the Le Puy. There will be some, but not that often. The Le Puy does not have anything like the pilgrim service economy of the Camino Frances. Which, for us, was one of its strong points.
We took the box lunch when offered by the gites and they were...
1. In addition to cafes, there are plenty of marked potable water faucets, but, last summer, there was a section where the faucets had signs warning that there had been a problem at the water treatment facility and the water was not potable at the moment. My wife and I each carried 2 liters...
I understand there are 2 Gites in La Clauze, a town 18.7 km past Monistrol-d'Allier. Does anyone have contract information for them? Recommendations? The 2016 edition of the MMDD app been delayed due to technical difficulties and I am trying to hold off buying it until the 2016 edition is...
The Acheter button now seems to work. I did not actually purchase the 2015 Edition since I am holding out for the 2016 edition, but clicking on Acheter now triggers a request for my iStore password, so it looks like whatever the problem was, it is now resolved. I did not get the error message I...
Hmm. . . I'd held off clicking Acheter to avoid inadvertently getting last year's edition. After seeing your post I went ahead and clicked Acheter and got what is probably the same message. Translated, it read: "This guide is not referenced. Please renew your purchase later." I tried the 2014...
It should work fine with your iPhone.
You do NOT buy the route guides at the App Store.
You only buy the iMiam app at the App Store, which you may have already done.
You open the app and will get a message in French that says you have no guide installed. It asks if you would like to go to the...
Does anyone know when the iMiam app for GR 65 is updated each year? I see that you can purchase the 2013, 2014 and 2015 GR65 editions but no 2016 as of today. I'm starting in July.
I see that the 2016 guidebook is out.
Thanks,
Karl
Thanks. I think I will definitely get the app, but may get the book as well, although I probably won't carry it if most of the info is in the app. I'll practice on the app and see if I can get by with it. Hate to carry books if I can help it!
I'm roughing out my plans for a Le Puy Camino. Any towns or cities I should be sure to stop at? Any I should consider spending an extra day in? I needed an extra day for the cathedrals in Burgos and Leon when I walked from SJPdP to Santiago last fall; any towns or cities you would recommend I...
