Finally, I found your posts! Glad to hear you are doing so well. It’s a wonderful route! I’m sitting at Zurich airport about to fly to Florence to begin the Way of St Francis. Hi to M. Looking forward to the rest of your Camino. Take care. Geoff
I found the markings on this route much better than expected, so I think you will be ok. It's better marked than other routes I've experienced. Sounds like quite the looooong walk you have in mind. Enjoy!
I used Salomon boots, but I was walking other Camino Routes after the Invierno. I guess if you've tried runners and they didn't work before then I'd go with your light hiking boots. I wouldn't use runners, but I know others swear by them. As Laurie said, there isn't a huge amount of asphalt, but...
PS. There aren't many albergues on the Invierno, and you would have to stay in small hotels quite often. I think there are 3 or 4 albergues, though the new guide will update the number.
Poly, as Kinkyone has said you won't find the Invierno busy. I walked it in September 2016 and I didn't meet another pilgrim until I connected with the Sanabres 3 days from Santiago. I can assure you that the trail is very clearly marked, much better than other routes I've walked. It's a very...
Last year I wanted to stop here for a cold refreshment before the climb on a very hot August day, but it didn't open until 13:30 which I thought was pretty strange. After walking for over 5 hours a cool break would have been welcome, but I didn't want to wait for over an hour until a possible...
Hi Laurie,
Yes I did make a few notes to send to you, but I walked a fair bit last year and arrived home for Christmas then began preparing for Japan. Sorry about that. After walking to Ponferrada, I crossed to Santiago in 10 days.
- in Las Medulas I really enjoyed staying at Casa Socorro.
- if...
I started in late August from Leon and walked into Santiago 14 days later and I didn't see another pilgrim on the Invierno portion. I caught up to a very nice lady a day out of Santiago on the Sanabres who had also finished the Invierno just a couple of days ahead of me and she hadn't seen...
Some of the dogs I met on the Via de la Plata were extremely aggressive. Often the problem is that you run into loose dogs in isolated locations. I can certainly appreciate that someone with a well founded fear of dogs would have been very upset. I'm comfortable with dogs, but I've no doubt that...
Laurie, I told Jirit about it (we are friends both living in the same city here in Canada) and he posted a link to it in the Resources Section. I'm really looking forward to it and of course I'll let you know how it goes. It's newish and looks like a lot of fun and the stages are reasonably...
To my earlier post, I've purchased a one way ticket and have decided to begin in Leon on August 21st and walk to Santiago via the Inverino in 14 stages. Much to my surprise I've had to book accommodations for some nights on the Invierno. Last year I had intended to pass through here in late...
Hi Laurie. Having reviewed your guide I was all set to walk it last month after the Le Puy and Camino de Madrid routes, but unfortunately suffered a stress fracture in my lower leg as I was approaching SJPdP. Such is life, but I was very much looking forward to it and well prepared for the...
