Hi. I'm planning my 3rd camino at the end of April'17 (3 weeks to go, yes I know :)). Plan is to do Camino del Salvador from Leon to Oviedo the first 5 days. And then my sister is joining me for 7 days walking on her first Camino - she has a little one at home so is a bit pressed for time.

What would you recommend: going on the Primitivo from Oviedo for 7 days? Or rather taking a train to Pamplona, and walking on the French Camino for 7 days?

My concern is that afterwards we have to get back to Madrid to catch a plane back to South Africa again - I've been looking at transportation options back from the Primitivo, but it looks fairly limited.

Any advice would be much appreciated!

Thanks

If you are already in Oviedo than the Primitivo would be a good option. For flights or bus to Madrid you either need:-
1) to reach Grandas de Salime and then catch the ALSA back to Oviedo and fly from Asturias airport or take the ALSA to Madrid.
or
2) to reach Lugo and then bus to either Santiago or A Coruna airport, or ALSA to Madrid.

It depends how far you think your sister can walk daily, so estiamting where you can get to in those 7 days. You need to know that there is no public transport between Grandas and A Fonsagrada. There is one bus a day from Grandas to Oviedo (apart from one day when there is no bus) so check the timetable carefully. There are 3 buses a day on work days from A Fonsagrada to Lugo and it crosses the Camino in a few places (Cadavo; Castroverde etc) - again check the timetable.
You can check the distances etc on Gronze for the Primitivo

Thanks for the advise Tia

I've decided to follow your advise, and continue on the Primitivo to Fonsagrada, from where we can take the bus to Lugo.

The planned comined Camino del Salvador & Camino Primitivo itenarary will then be as below...with the obvious caveat that some days may change due to the circumstances encountered along the way!
