Amigos Welcome Service announcement from APC

Dear Fellow Pilgrims,

We all have special feelings about Santiago de Compostela and can recount in vivid detail the experience of our first arrival. Have you ever considered spending an extended period in that beautiful city, living, if only for a couple of weeks, as a local, leaving your own apartment each morning to walk to “work” in the shadow of the cathedral?

If you’re looking for a way to give back to the Camino, consider taking advantage of a unique opportunity available to you as a member of American Pilgrims on the Camino, proud joint sponsor of the 2013 Amigos Welcome Service in the Pilgrims' Office in Santiago de Compostela.

Please be reminded that the deadline by which Applications must reach Santiago for processing is not later than February 22, 2013.

Participating in the popular and rewarding program, ¡Amigos! welcome and assist pilgrims in the English language as they arrive to receive their Compostelas. Former pilgrims from the U.K., Ireland, the U.S. and Holland will be chosen to serve in the Pilgrims' Office in Santiago for two-week assignments during May to November. Factors upon which applications will be evaluated in Santiago include experience on the Camino, experience as a hospitalero, degree of involvement in your pilgrim association, availability, and language skills in English, Spanish, and preferably one other language.

¡Amigos! are responsible for their transportation to and from Santiago as well as food and other personal expenses; however, housing in a centrally located shared apartment is provided by the program.

If you would like more information about the Amigos Welcome Service as well as details on how to apply, please request an application packet from amigos@americanpilgrims.com. Response thus far has been brisk and enthusiastic.

During 2012, close to 195,000 pilgrims received Compostelas in Santiago. Expecting at least that many in 2013, we hope that you will want to apply to welcome some of them at their journey’s end.
