The pilgrim season 2018 has finished and the Anglican-Episcopalian Camino Chaplaincy has closed its doors for this year. 11 volunteers, both lay and clergy, female and male, from such diverse countries as Canada, Australia, England, Northern Ireland and Germany provided pastoral and practical care for pilgrims. A total of 27 church services have been held and additionally we welcomed countless pilgrims during Open House hours at my place with coffee, tea and cookies/biscuits plus chatted to even more about their Camino when we were going out and about Santiago.

2018 was our pilot project year with services provided during May/June and September/October but in 2019 we would like to extend this time frame to the whole pilgrim season from April/May all through to October/November.

This year's pilot project has been financed by the generous donations of a small group of friends here in Santiago and elsewhere plus the donations given by pilgrims that visited us for services or simply for a cup of coffee/tea and a chat. As our plans for 2019 are to increase our offerings for pilgrims, we need your help to accomplish this!

What you can do:

Donate to us – All chaplaincy volunteers pay their own travel cost and this year some of them even paid for their own accommodation, food etc. Next year we would like to offer all volunteers here in Santiago accommodation and at least some food. Other costs include printing of material and basic mass supplies like candles, wafers and wine, but accommodation rental is obviously the biggest expense. If you want to help with the running costs of next year's Chaplaincy, you can use the following >>>link<<< or you can contact me directly via private message for other options.

As an indication: It costs around 15 Euro/day to run the chaplaincy, that includes accommodation and food for the volunteers plus the aforementioned costs like printing and mass supplies. If you could sponsor one or more days of this – that would be a big help!

Pray for us – Especially for the selection and training of next year's volunteers, for all of us as we live together in Santiago and a place for us to worship on Sundays.

Tell others about us – Whilst the work of the Chaplaincy got widely advertised both online and offline, word of mouth is still the best advertisement! So, if you know of somebody that plans to do the Camino in 2019, give them this link http://egeria.house/chaplaincy/ where they can find out more about us, what we do and where to find us. And feel free to post said link on social media and elsewhere, where appropriate. Additionally you can point pilgrims to our Facebook page here: https://www.facebook.com/CaminoChaplaincyCoE/

So, that is the very basic information, if you like to know more and in detail about what we did and plan to do, head over to our website.

Buen Camino, SY

PS Just in case you wonder, @ivar has told me that I can post about this fundraiser here ;-)

This is a wonderful ministry, and I know it is much appreciated. In terms of "getting the word out", I wonder if you might exploit the same strategy I saw very often: the Swiss association had "Ultreia.ch" stickers all along the route in Germany, Switzerland, and France. Sticker size is small, a square about 5 cm each side. A few donors walking from SJPP could apply stickers in assigned sections ...

€2,-/day will present your project to thousands of visitors each day. All interested in the Camino de Santiago.

What we do locally, and also to plan more widely next year, is putting up flyers in albergues and similar, we obviously ask beforehand if we are welcome to do this. Handing out stickers 'could' lead to them being plastered allover the way on signs, way markers etc. BC SY

And it is also a joy to be involved and to be able to help with - as always, we get for more than we give ;-)
