In a few weeks, I arrive on an Iberia international flight at MAD, Terminal 4s, at 6:00 am, then take a connecting Iberia flight to Porto, Terminal 4, at 7:25 am. Both flights are on the same ticket and I will check one bag. Do I need to retrieve that checked bag to go through customs at Madrid, or do I go through customs in Porto? I have an EU passport.

JW is correct.

To reassure yourself check the tag affixed to your bag when you hand it over. The destination on that is the place you need to collect it.
