Well … I left this one way too late. Today I was thinking of dumping my traditional hiking hat in favour of a Camino emblem ball cap … but I left it too late and even Amazon can’t get one here before I leave for Irun on Monday. Any suggestions?

Take a bog standard ball cap and pin a scallop to it? I don't usually carry a scallop shell these days but I do have a small pewter shell badge on my hat.

We started with ball caps but sent them ahead to Santiago at Pamplona and bought bucket hats with big brims all the way around. They just weren’t protective enough from the sun.

This has the extra advantage of being oh so historic. Look at all of those representations of Santiago Peregrino where he has a scallop on his broad brimmed hat. The hat seems to have been one of the most common places to display one's scallop.
 
The one from Galicia (the round) and the one from Castilla & Leon. Individually numbered and made by the same people that make the ones you see on your walk.
Loads and loads of Camino pins and the like available all up and down the route as well as any type or style of hat/cap conceivable as well as I'm sure caps and hats with various types of Camino logos on them.
