The Heritage CEO, Jose Luis Vega, announced yesterday that the regional government will introduce in 2011 a nomination to UNESCO for the Northern Route, one of the main routes used by pilgrims to Santiago de Compostela running through the Cantabrian-is to be considered a world heritage site. "Today's application is in the indicative list, this means that the state government has among its priorities. Next year we want to continue working in this direction to nominate the route in 2011, "said Vega, who participated in the inauguration of the Second Congress which was held in the palace of Valdecarzana on social communication in the roads to Santiago.

Vega stressed that the Northern Way has already been declared a Cultural Route (BIC) and now the Principality will dissect the legal protection of the trail - who are the true owners of the land-and work to improve and enhance the network of shelters. In this sense, the councilman of Culture of Avilés, Roman Antonio Alvarez, said that the City has allocated a budget to improve the hostels for pilgrims in the city. "We want to do this work facing the Jacobean 2010, but thinking ahead. Aviles is a very important step in the pilgrimage to Santiago de Compostela "he said. It also noted that work is ongoing in the signaling of the path and said that in his opinion, it is necessary to proceed with the documentation and investigation of the Road to Compostela.
