I live in the US and will be walking the Via de la Plata with an iPhone 14 (only eSim) and was looking for recommendations from people who have used an eSim on the Camino. An eSim provider that provides more than data - talk, text and data. I do not need any comments or info on physical Sims. Thanks

The 2024 Camino guides will be coming out little by little. Here is a collection of the ones that are out so far.

Assume you’re starting in Sevilla? I’d just go the the Vodafone shop.

The one from Galicia (the round) and the one from Castilla & Leon. Individually numbered and made by the same people that make the ones you see on your walk.
Bought an Orange “Holiday Zen” esim (phone, text and data) from simoptions.com back in Sept and it worked great. Bought in the US and activated on the plane upon landing without any issues. Also bought a separate data only plan from Airalo as a backup. ($5). Didn‘t need it but it also worked well. I used it for video calls.

Just checked out the website - looks perfect, thanks!

I’ve used Airalo (https://www.airalo.com/) on the Camino and on hiking in other countries. You only get a data connection, not a phone number. It is very reasonably priced. I used Signal and WhatsApp to call, but there were a couple of times, I actually needed to make a phone call and had to turn on my regular sim and pay for a day of international calling. I met several others on the Camino using Airalo.

You can save money by buying credit on an app like Viber to make very inexpensive phone calls when you need to call a land-line or other number that doesn't use WhatsApp or Signal - only 2¢ a minute.

Thanks, looks as if this will do the trick.
