Fiesta de San Roque in Betanzos on the Camino Inglés

Time of past OR future Camino
May & August 2023
Following a quite wonderful first Camino last month, the Portugues from Tui via the Variante Espiritual, I wish to do another one – this time the Camino Inglés! My plan is to arrive in Ferrol on 14ᵗʰ August, enjoy a leisurely walk for eight or nine days, and reach Santiago de Compostela on the 22ⁿᵈ or 23ʳᵈ.

I noticed the Patron Festival of Saint Roch is happening during this time and there appears to be a big celebration in Betanzos on 16ᵗʰ August: the release of the El globo giant balloon, fireworks and what looks to be a party in the main square. However, right now my schedule means I wouldn't arrive in Betanzoz until the 18ᵗʰ, which happens to be the day of the Os caneiros boat parade.

I am considering adjusting my itinerary, so I leave Ferrol on the 12/13ᵗʰ and reach Betanzos on the 15/16ᵗʰ. Just wondering if anyone here has experienced the Fiesta de San Roque in Betanzos? As a solo traveler who is up for boozy festivities but speaks little Spanish much less Galician, will changing my plans be worthwhile? Or is the boat parade fun enough?

Grazas!
