Hi, @LesBrass, Thanks for linking to the map. When I walked, the solid line was the only path marked. The river alternative, I think, was done to get people off the road, because there is a LOT of road walking on this camino. I see that Cades comes after the two alternatives merge, but I have no real strong memory of it. I definitely remember the Hotel Casona del Nansa in Puente de Arrudo, and it looked just great. Probably not cheap, though. But I went on to La Fuente. Accommodations between La Fuente and Potes could be problematic as well. Cicera is a good option, but that may be too short for some. I didn’t stay there but talked to someone who did and who said it was very nice. I see on Gronze that the stage from Cicera now shows rerouting since 2015. @anamaya, did you walk the new way? It looks like the new way does not make the ascent up to the Collado. That is where I got terribly lost and wound up shredding my pants by sliding down through incredible brush/maleza/prickers. But it is so pretty! The gronze map for the second stage also has wisely removed the route from Lebeña to Tama alongside the N-621. That ranks right up there with other “most terrifying highway walks ever.” When I walked, the route to Cabañes was marked, but the albergue had no availability. I think it is a youth hostel and will frequently be full. So my thinking is that if you can do three days — Cades, Cicera, and Potes, you can avoid much of the highway and have a reasonable shot at getting a bed. @Kelly Catlow, thanks for pointing out this definite problem with the La Fuente albergue’s days of operations. That is a real trap for the unwary! Buen camino, Laurie
