Hi everone
I'm walking from Sarria to SDC in October. What can i expect in terms of weather? Not really sure of the altitude on that particular part of the Comino so not sure if i should bring contingent snow clothing... Thanks in advance.

It's more likely to still be warm in October.

WeatherSpark is a good site for historical weather patterns.

I agree that it is very unlikely to have snow in October in that region. I think October might have the best walking weather of any month. Even in November, "snow clothing" would be just an extra layer of light weight clothing (e.g. merino wool) plus a waterproof jacket or poncho. Two light layers is always more flexible than a single heavy layer.

Since I like to be prepared for anything, within reason, here's what I would take in October...
  • For walking, depending on the weather of the day, wear a combination of (merino wool) t-shirt, long sleeved merino shirt, long-sleeved sun shirt, and rain jacket
  • For chilly evenings, nights or mornings, take a fleece or puffy down vest or jacket, but don't expect to need them while walking.
  • Light weight merino wool base layer (top and and bottom) to wear as pyjamas, and they would be available to wear under my walking clothes if the weather got unusually cold.
  • Buff and lightweight gloves, simply because I like to be warm.

Hi.
I have walked in April, May. June, July, September and October. October was a beautiful month for walking in and for the first three weeks when I was walking there was no rain just bright, comfortable walking weather. However my family came out to spend the last week with me in SDC and from the moment they arrived it rained every day. Not sure this helps but it was how it happened.

I certainly agree with C clearly about the importance of layers.

My kit list and tips is from the viewpoint of woman who often walked in autumn/winter. Perhaps you might find it useful for your planning.

Hi, Mspath, I have read your Kit list and tips, thank you. This is my first camino and it will be at the end of April to mid May. I love the 'finding a bunk' section, first time I read about these situations and you mentions the way to arrange your sleeping bag for cold nights. I am trying to justify the need of a liner if I have a sleeping bag for 30 degrees and up. Any comments? Thanks.

The polyester liner I used weighed nothing, provided additional warmth and helped keep the sleeping bag clean. In very warm weather you might not need your sleeping bag for a night and just use a liner as your bedding.

Happy planning!

Early verses late October I have seen a shift in temperatures with temperatures cooler, especially in the morning hours towards the end of the month. We experienced light snow in very early November between Portomarin and Palas de Rei. Just follow the layer method and you should be fine.
