I have done both the Frances and Portuguese in the past 2 years but in October I am taking an old friend from Sarria to Santiago. I have 6 days walking so advice on stages and small hotels/ auberges would be much appreciated previously I walked until I was ready to stop ( 6 and 4 weeks ) but he will need the assurance of a Bedroom for the night and shorter stages. Thanks for any help.

My newest favorite toy is the website Urcamino.com. For the routes that it covers its a great planning tool. You can punch in your start place and say what is your average distance per day. It will then tell you how long that would take and give you all sorts of flexible options for plotting your route. You also put in when your walking so it only shows places open during those times.

I've been using it to plot my upcoming Primitivo. Be interesting to see how it all works out. Good luck and happy planning! Karin

The focus is on reducing the risk of failure through being well prepared. 2nd ed.
We did the same walk recently and split the typical day 3 of Palas de Rei-Arzúa to 2 days walking so you can get a bit of easy days in between.

Sarria-Portomarín
Portomarín-Palas de Rei
Palas de Rei-Melide
Melide-Arzúa
Arzúa-O Pedrouzo
O Pedrouzo-Santiago

We stayed in mostly private accommodation...you can PM me for details. Would be happy to recommend.

I started out from Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port on 1 May. It turned out to be an unforgetable day. Above 1,000 m or so it snowed, catching many people unprepared. Later that day "many" walkers were...
