Hi all
I am due to arrive in Santander on 4th on the Ryanair flight from London landing at 6pm. I did try to email the main refuge but got no reply (probably because of my awful spanish!). Is it silly to turn up at around 7pm and expect to get a bed? I'll be carrying my little rollmat so I could sleep on the floor at a pinch. Is the refuge amenable to this? Or would I be better off trying to book a hotel? If anyone has a reservation or is about to make one and wants to share to save costs, please send me a private message.

Hi

I think that arriving midweek should be fine to get a bed. If the albergue is full there are many other hostals and cheaper hotels. If you don't want to book in advance I'd be happy taking my chances.

Buen Camino

...and ship it to Santiago for storage. You pick it up once in Santiago. Service offered by Casa Ivar (we use DHL for transportation).
When I arrived around 7pm a few years ago and it was full, the hospitalero took me to the small bar just back down the hill and made some calls. He arranged for a lady to come and meet me, and by now another walker. We walked the short distance to her accomodation, which generally is frequented only by pilgrims.

Buen Camino.
