My guess would be: mid to late 1990s. Why?
The pilgrim's memorial they show is dated 1993 but doesn't look brand new.
They pay the taxi driver who transports their backpacks in Pesetas; the Euro was introduced in 2002.
They also mention the rise of the AIDS epidemic "ten years ago" which would have been the mid 80s.
