Wifi Connections Irun to SdC

Hello everyone,

I will have to work digitally about every other day from Irun to SdC (bringing an iPad). What are the wifi connections like along the entire route? What about the Primitivo?

As erratic and variable as the terrain. If you are not tied to specific times you should be able to take advantage of good connections when you find them. If you need reliable connections in specific time slots it’s gonna take you a while to get to Santiago

Wifi is pretty widely available from bars and albergues but it can be very slow and erratic - especially if a lot of people are sharing the connection. In your position I would think about buying a local prepaid sim and a generous data allowance and then using my mobile phone as a personal hotspot for times when there is no wifi or none worth the name. My UK mobile network now allows roaming in Spain at a good price but I used to buy a sim from Orange for each trip and found their prices and coverage were excellent. Other networks have very similar deals. Only takes a few minutes in a mobile phone shop to register a sim and get it set up.

I’m finishing CDN from Irun tomorrow. WIFI has been highly variable, and just totally dependent on the facility I’m staying in. Generally okay for email, videos, photo editing. Obviously I didn’t stay in every accommodation available along the way, but my experience was that it was better in the newer albergues and the hotels than it was in pensions.
And as you would expect, it was better in cities than out in the country. Depends maybe on the priorities of the owner. Thinking back on it, seems that the better the food was, the worse the WIFI was!
In many places it seemed to get slower and inconsistent as more guests arrived.
My iPad flagged over half of them as having “weak security”, if that is a concern for you.
Related: cell service has been good. I have a good roaming plan with lots of data, so sometimes I just used my iPhone as personal hotspot for the iPad.
