I feel a little "sheepish" recounting my special moments. I was trudging tiredly out of Boadilla in over 30 deg, in a stone walled one lane dirt road when I had to stop and spread eagle against a wall to allow a large tractor to pass. The roar and clatter barely cleared when I was enveloped in a thick cloud of swirling dust and clanging uproar. Suddenly I found myself in a sea of THE ugliest scrawny, daggy, bell- bedecked sheep which were surging around me in bleating jangling currents for what seemed like minutes. Fortunately I had a buff which I hastily pulled over my nose and mouth till I emerged from the miasma somewhat smellier but strangely energised. I felt I was absorbed into the landscape completely and my feet felt oddly stronger moving forward. The hot morning became more interesting when a few minutes later I was accosted by a group of older Spanish citizens from the canal leisure boat who were landed at the Boadilla end at the time. They were warm and effusively excited to meet a REAL peregrina (there were plenty more in front and behind, but I was the only one in sight)....showering me with hugs, kindly ignoring my Pilgrim smell and clouds of sheep dust, and started firing questions at me.. Was I sola? Where was my hombre ? Could I carry their prayers to Santiago? I was, they all agreed, SI VALIENTE!!!! So although I was only one of hundreds walking to Fromista that day, I felt very special and my pilgrim battery was on full charge again. My pilgrimage was validated and blessed by a crowd of curious pensioners and a flock of noisy sheep !
