turned out to be the monastery at Irache - not a functioning albergue

This is a scene from the movie The Way. Which means it might be a staged scene - at an old monastery cloister. I think if you have the DVD there is the round table discussion with the producers/directors and Martin at which the location is discussed. If I get my copy back from family I will confirm location. Cheers

@ozuraj Yes you are correct. I have the DVD and did a rerun of the comments/special features and this the location mentioned. Apparently if/when the money is available there are plans to convert/redevelop into a Parador, but I think the albergue option is better. Cheers.

yes, it's at Irache (you do have to walk a bit further than the wine fountain)...when I was there a few years ago they allowed you to explore, and accepted donations. A parador would at least maintain the place...an albergue not so much
