Lepoeder. Stone marker and path to Ibañeta

When I reached this point last year there were maybe 7-8 other people there at the same time. I had done some research beforehand and knew that I wanted to take the road. After a long day I just did not want the extra stress on the knees of a steep descent. I was surprised (and pleased) that everyone else took the forest route. I guess it is a bit shorter, and to each their own, but I was happy to stroll the last few kilometres into Roncesvalles with nothing but my own thoughts.

The path to Ibañeta/Roncesvalles can be seen behind the marker. After a few steps it follows the easier paved road. It is indicated in the adjacent wooden signpost as "Alternativa suave".

I have only done the "gentle" alternative and I find it SPLENDID, I cannot imagine the forest alternative will be much nicer, I only see advantages, you get forest, rivers, old war buildings, horses, sheep, splendid views and it is thoroughly enjoyable.
