Time of past OR future Camino
I plan to walk my first Camino on 17th March 2019.
Hiya everyone,
I've just joined the forum. I'm hoping some of you with so much knowledge can provide with me with some tips on doing Camino Northern route. Was planning on starting from Bilbao airport on 17th March. Struggling to find Alberque's for my route as they seem to be closed for March. Can anyone help? Also where in Bilbao can I get my Camino Passport? All help & advice will be greatly appreciated.

Hi Cully,

the website www.gronze.com gives you information about the period, in which the Albergue is open.

In the best case: Todo el ano (the whole year)

Buen Camino

The focus is on reducing the risk of failure through being well prepared. 2nd ed.
Buy this book, The Camino del Norte from Wise Pilgroms Guides, sponsored by the Confraternity of St. James. They are an English group, but I am certain you will find a Socios del Camino society in Bilbao and they will have this book or one even better. Distances, all services, detail on the walk as you progress day by day. It's all there. Suseia!

That’s a little confusing. The Wise Pilgrim and the Confraternity books are separate books. Both are good, however. You can buy the Wise Pilgrim book on this forum. If you do, it will come with a free passport. Wise Pilgrim also comes as an app, available for either iphones or android phones. A maps-only version (Wisely / Camino Places) can be downloaded for free on this forum. The Confraternity book comes in 2 volumes. The first covers the Norte from Irun to Villaviciosa (roughly where the Primitivo splits off from the Norte). The second volume covers the rest of the Norte. You can get the Confraternnity books (and also Wise Pilgrim) from the Confraternity’s website: https://www.csj.org.uk/ You can also buy a passport from the Confraternity, or, as noted above, from this forum.

According to a previous post on this forum, you can also get a credencial at the municipal albergue in Bilbao. You don’t have to stay there.

Sorry - i'm not able to help with information regarding open albergues in mid march. But please keep us updated on your findings.
