Hi all,

Just wondering if anyone else saw this exhibition at the Pilgrim Museum in Santiago? It was an exhibition by a photographer of portraits of people when they started their Camino's and again when they finished their Camino's. It was really interesting and quite moving, and for sure the majority looked much younger and happier in their "after" portraits (maybe some poetic license here).

I recall one particular lady whom the narrative described how she'd come to the Camino because she was basically at the end of her rope with the worries of life and the world, and her before and after portraits were really quite staggering. It was a beautiful exhibition both in words and photos of the transformative effect the Camino (or the particular environment the Camino provides before we get into that debate) can have on some people both mentally and more so with the photos physically (although both are intertwined of course).

I was there end of October when I saw it, so not sure how long it was on. I've done some Googling and can't find any reference to it. Would love to know who the photographer is and if it's viewable online anywhere if anyone knows?

Amazing to see the imprint of the Camino in the faces of those who walk. I recall seeing short clips of this project on, I believe it was youtube. At the time I thought, what a lovely story. I'm grateful I got to see the outcome. Thank you for posting this.

My husband and I were photographed by Javier the night before we left Roncesvalles at the beginning of March 2023, and he kept track of us as we progressed along the Frances (our second time). Two days out of Santiago we let him know of our arrival and he was patiently waiting for us at the Pilgrim office. It was such a wonderful way to complete a Camino after so many times. We visited the Pilgrim museum in October 2023 when completing our 10th Camino from Ribadesella to the Primitivo ( for a second time) and the staff were so excited when I pointed out that I was featured in the brochure that they wanted to give me a great wad of them to give to family and friends. It's amazing to view yourself as a giant portrait and we thank Javier for granting us such amazing images of a genuine transformation that the Camino gifts to those who experience it.
